Nose: Young, still has the fresh grain smell but mellowed by the oak with a hint of vanilla and toasted coconut. The high rye content comes through with a little of what I call the ”dill pickle” smell of younger ryes.
Palate: Pretty well balanced for being no older than two year and with the high rye content. Notes of caramel and vanilla battle with the black pepper spice. Not in a harsh way by any means.
Finished: The caramel transforms more into a saltes caramel treat with some hints of a toffee like sweetness competing the the lingering zestiness of the black pepper.
All in all not a bad whiskey at all and it gives me hope for the distillery in the years to come!
