Uncorking - Nose- Rye. Like straight up rye in a way I have never had so pronounced before. Almost medicinal. Candy. Like a cough drop or syrup.
Flavor rye spice is strong again. Along with some golden raisins. Almost a syrup wine note in there, like a port, towards the end. I would have guessed this was finished in wine barrels. It's flavor and nose remind me of scotch beers like Irish Death. There are some identical notes in the palate. Maybe a bit of hard candy snaps but not ginger. Something else.
Finish is lots of fruit. Dark roasted cereals. Some gentle smoke and oak light on the edges from the barrel. First whiskey I have tasted pineapple or mango in. The fruit is strong in the end. Worth really chewing on as more and more develops.
Definitely falls into the interesting category and one of the more unique drams I have poured. It's quite good even if it or maybe because it defies it's category.
