This is very good value for money and punches well above its price. Nose of some light vanilla, creme brulee and almonds with some acetone burn on the core. Taste of the same vanilla and creme brulee notes, but it quickly evolves into notes of coffee/cocoa/stout and similar "dark" flavours, with very strong oak. Surprisingly full bodied and with a good finish, very smooth and no acrid bite. Call me crazy but I'd take a bottle of this over Johnnie Walker Black or Chivas 12 any day. And needless to say I vastly prefer this to the dirt cheap blends like The Famous Grouse and Johnnie Walker Red.

supermarket whiskies; they are very affordable, some are single malt, most are blends; I’ve tried Lidl’s offerings - they were remarkable for their price point, but good enough to drink as a daily dram? Perhaps as highballs in the summer, or a base for sweeter cocktails in the cooler seasons. One thing’s for sure. At that price level, they’re giving big boys’ respective bottlings a run for their money and that’s a good thing. Perhaps this way, Famous Grouse will return to a higher malt to grain ratio of yesteryear, or Red Label revert to their less watery, 1980-esque profile. Good review
And here I was about to try a mini of The Famous Grouse to find out if it was any good. This sounds like great value at <$20.
