Nose - liquid smoke, iodine, tennis ball, rubber, band aid, cooked agave, mint, coriander, dry grass, moderate ethanol burn.
Taste - rubber, medicinal iodine, liquid smoke, tennis ball, spearmint, pepper, cooked agave, lemon, salt cured ham, sour apple, coriander, vanilla, simple syrup, caramel, dry grass, moderate alcohol bite, finishing long with rubber, smoke, and mint flavors.
This is the first mezcal I’ve tried, so I’m not quite sure where to place this. I like smokiness in liquor, but feel it may be too overpowering here. It’s how I imagine a diluted Laphroaig would taste right off the still. Regardless, I found this to be a pleasant sipper, if a bit monotone. If there are any mezcal experts out there, recommend me a few good ones and I’ll add them to my shopping list.

@WhiskyWitch Thanks for the recommendation! I’ll add it to the list. I usually enjoy spirits that have some rubber qualities on the nose or palate.
@BeppeCovfefe Ha, good point! Since it’s the first from the category I’ve tried, I wasn’t quite sure how to rate it. As I try more mezcals in the future, it may get tweaked up or down. Overall though, I thought it was decent. As for the tasting notes, I tend to favor the more abrasive, challenging flavors, so tennis balls and iodine aren’t necessarily negatives for me.
I enjoyed Del Maguey Crema de Mezcal, but that is the only mezcal *I've* ever tried... I think the "burnt tire" aroma might just be part of the style though. It's very different from peat smoke.
@ContemplativeFox I've tried Vago Elote and Bozal, both are pretty nice in their own way.
"rubber, medicinal iodine, liquid smoke, tennis balls, " but still warrants a 3.0? I would think whatever else it is must be really freakin good to make up for that.
@ContemplativeFox Thanks for the recommendation. I’ll add it to the list. Looks like VA doesn’t carry the brand (no surprises there), but I’ll keep a look out for it next time I’m in DC or MD.
I'm no expert, but Del Maguey and Wahaka are popular brands with some really good offerings to try at a bar. If you're looking to buy another bottle, my recommendation would be Los Vecinos Espadin. It's very solid (albeit not amazing) mezcal and it only costs $25.
