Nose: sweet corn, dark vanilla extract, carmel, oak and fruit. Blueberry pie.
Taste 1: rye spice and heat pretty quickly coats the tongue. No big alcohol burn or unpleasant flavors. The oak char is delicious. Light fruit like apple or pear. A little cinnamon and clove and nutmeg.
Nose 2: still getting a Carmel and blueberry on the nose. Also a floral and herbal scent.
Taste 2: Good mouth feel, little alcohol burn and taste on second taste. A slight minty feeling on the finish, cool on the tongue and warm in the chest and throat.
Overall, for the 30-35 dollar price point I think this is a very solid whiskey. For about 15 dollars more I can get rare breed which I think is a little more refined with 116.8 proof and way more concentrated of flavors. This is not quite as rich as the rate breed. But they do have similar profiles especially with the barrell char notes and spice.
