Nose 1: so in the nose I'm getting strong sense of alcohol at first but then I'm getting also like a really dark, nice, old rye type of flavor. Reminds me a. Little of the kentucky peerless 3 year small batch rye. But not quite as rich on the nose as that is. I also get a light herbal quality.
Taste 1: dill, heat from the spice and alcohol, rye bread, cinnamon, vanilla and carmel, sweet oak, orange peel. This is a good balance between a super high rye mash bill and a low rye mash bill like knob creek. The age is what's making me like this so much. I'm such a sucker for that charred oak flavor fro.. the barrell. This has a long finish that lingers for a while.
Nose 2: orange peel and carmel candy. Sweet and savory. Honey and dill lingers. Brown sugar sweetness.
Taste 2: dill again that transforms into citrus and then finally that brown sugar sweetness that feels like it remains on the tongue and sticks to it for a while as it finishes. Good finish, still going as I write this. I like the feeling it leaves on the tongue. Mouth feel is good.
Great rye! I'd put it into the same category as the knob creek rye, maybe this one is a little more rye-like. Not as sweet and caramel-y as the knob creek. I could drink this neat or use it for a great cocktail!
Cheers!
