I bought a bottle of this a while ago. The first time I had this I wasn't the biggest fan. I really like the peat smoke but the iodine and the saltiness was a lot.
This time was different. Enjoyed neat
One the nose-campfire smoke, peat, salty but sweet
Taste- peat smoke and a touch of salt

Now I'm imagining Ardbeg as a biker with a heart of gold. You've undone all of their rugged branding with one comment @WhiskeyLonghorn
Keep at it. After several year of heavily peated whisky, I actually find the standard 10 as sweet as I do smokey. A lot of the Islays have a tough guy smoky exterior that’s masking a sweet and fruity tasting malt.
I had the exact same experience although it took way longer then the second dram. First times it was way too much for my unexperienced Islay palate but after several drams with a few months in between each I got to really like it. I then did a shootout between the core range Ardbegs and settled with the Uigeadail. All of which by the way are quite affordable.
Ardbeg can be a lot at first, but its complexity has really grown on me over time :)
