Nose - grape, cherry, clove, allspice, vanilla, orange zest, nutty nougat, barrel spice, high ethanol burn.
Taste - butterscotch, vanilla, orange zest, grape, cherry, almond, licorice, apricot, cocoa, toasted oak, clove, moderate to high alcohol bite, finishing fairly fast with sweet fruit, caramel, and slightly tannic oak flavors.
The flavors are reasonably nice, but the heat on the nose and palate is too much. At the price point, there are superior options such as the Pierre Ferrand 1840 or Ambre offerings. While not amazing, both are significantly better than this.

Looking forward to trying the samples of Camus I have sitting in a box even more now @cascode :)
@ctbeck11 Ferrand and Delamain are great choices - both do some very nice stuff for reasonable prices. The only "big houses" I particularly like are Hine and Camus. The others seem very over-rated.
Yeah, Armagnac is a great choice for whiskey fans moving into bourbon, which is odd because it uses column stills. It can be hard to find though :( @ctbeck11
@ContemplativeFox The only ones I’ve had the opportunity to try so far are from Pierre Ferrand and Delamain, all of which I’ve enjoyed and were priced significantly below their big Cognac house equivalents. Coming from a whiskey-centric tasting background, I think I enjoy the Armagnac flavor profile more than Cognac’s, and the prices are better too, although I’ve only been able to try a few so far. Unfortunately, the ABC only sells one Armagnac brand (Larressingle), so I have to either travel out of state or find an online retailer who will ship to Virginia, which isn’t very common.
Any recommendations among small producers @ctbeck11 ?
@ContemplativeFox Definitely. It doesn’t seem like there are many deals to be had with offerings from the major cognac houses. I’ve been more interested in some of the smaller producers recently.
Yeah, this is fairly costly for its quality. You nailed it on the excessive alcohol.
