3rd edition
1 of 877 bottles
Distilled 1980
60% grain, 40% malt
Nose: Acetone, sherry, dark chocolate. castor sugar, wild berries and raisins
Palate: Sherry, oily, smooth citrus, cocoa/chocolate, blackcurrant jam
Finish: Waxy, orange, wood, tobacco, light spice. Heavily citrus at the very end.
Lovely. Oily and sweet. This is quite a heavily sherried dram. It's quite unlike most blends with a high grain component. Very smooth.
Came 3rd out of the six whiskies, with 19% (8 votes) of the final vote for favourite of the night. This was my vote for favourite of the tasting.

Haha! Thanks for pointing that out @cascode It is supposed to be grain. I hope no Brians were offended by this!
@ContemplativeFox "It's just amazing that Brian needs so long to develop." That's either a *really* obscure reference or spell-check did a broadside to "grain" in your post 😂 But still ... enquiring minds need to know ... who is Brian? 🤔
It's just amazing that Brian needs so long to develop. I'm looking forward to reading your Invergordon review at some point ! @icsteel154
@ContemplativeFox I’ve been fortunate enough to find a few older grain whiskies, I’ve had a couple of good 25ish year old’s but they tend to gain a bit of character as they get past the 30year mark. I have a really interesting Invergordon 30 Year Old 1988 Xtra Old Particular from Douglas Laing that I’ll need to review at some point!
Very cool that you tried a 40 YO high-grain blend. I've heard from several sources that single grains only get good after ~30 years of age, so this should surely be in its prime :)
