Stagg Jr Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch 14
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed

First time enjoying neat at a bar
Nose - heavy heat and honey. There is also a heavy apple cinnamon pie presence to the nose. Sugar and heat perfect balance.
Taste - starts very very full with vanilla and honey explosion. Light oak, leather and cherries with apple pie. Surprisingly no cinnamon I can find. The finish has some heat to bring this bourbon to a great balance.
Overall - damn this is great. Why are these so hard to find? Because they are bar none the best.

I continue to be impressed by the stuff you find at Costco @dubz480
@ContemplativeFox our Costco's out here get drops for $39.99/bottle. Otherwise it's $50-$75
Fingers crossed that you're right about Shin remaining easy to find @ctbeck11 and good luck funding a bottle of Stagg Jr!
@ContemplativeFox My buddy bought the Shin 15 and I believe it’s long gone now; otherwise I could have provided a sample. I doubt it will gain too much traction in the future, although with ‘Japanese’ whiskies you never know. At the very least, it was a good introduction to mizunara finishes, which I really enjoyed and would like to experience again in other examples. Great review, @mojoe87! Unfortunately, I live in a Stagg (Jr) desert. Hoping to get my hands on at least one of the batches soon, but can’t bring myself to shell out for secondary prices. Maybe some day I’ll have an opportunity and won’t make a regretful decision to pass on it :)
Wow, and I thought it was a bargain at $65 @jonwilkinson7309 ! I feel you though. I'm sure there will be others in the future that I'll regret passing on as well. If I pass on Shin and it goes from shelf turd to allocated, I'll deserve all of the sadness that comes to me though @ctbeck11 @dubz480 seeing as how I know there's a decent risk of it being discovered.
@ContemplativeFox. I've seen this bottle on the shelf once. $50. And I was traveling and had bought three bottles elsewhere and decided I didn't need another. Oh well....
I still regret passing on a bottle of Stagg Jr last year :( Quite right that this is some excellent bourbon!
