18: This doesn't revolutionize whiskey, but it is very good. Sweetness with orange and a but of smoke giving it depth. It's a terrific choice. The right hness definitely has nutty and maybe even milk chocolatey influences, but the malt does not disappear. It isn't the king of the hill, but this is a massive success. Irish whiskey is able to stand it's ground, even when it does not cost as much as Bushmill's 21. The depth impresses, the richness impressed, and the smoothness impresses. This is creamy, fruity, rich (in a nutty way), and delightful. Just a bit of spice makes it through. This is magnificently balanced with a tremendous finish. It is unbelievably hard to accept that this is a 12 year whiskey...and from Ireland! There is no avoiding the marvelousness of Yellow Spot 12. And at the price, this is probably the best Irish whiskey you can buy.
This has a weird amount of caramel and brown sugar to it. It's rich, but in a kind of immature way. I enjoy it well enough, but it doesn't achieve greatness. It's quite impressive for a 12 year though.

@ContemplativeFox that is coincidentally funny. Well, looks like I know what else to put on my shopping list.
Ah, sorry. I meant in the US @Jan-Case Looks like it's already available in travel retail, so you might already be able to get it https://thewhiskeywash.com/whiskey-styles/irish-whiskey/blue-spot-single-pot-still-irish-whiskey-returns-after-decades-of-absence/
@ContemplativeFox what exactly do you mean with “stateside”?
That' hadn't even occurred to me @Jan-Case ! Even more reason to be polarized on this topic. Blue Spot is actually coming stateside in 3 months, so at that point it will be possible to choose your house. Mitchell & Sons needs to capitalize on this.
@cascode exactly - that’s why I want a Blue Spot ;)
@Jan-Case So that would make camp yellow Hufflepuff? Cool, I can live with that :)
I haven’t had red yet but to far I would stay in camp yellow - at least over the summer. One might wonder if there ever is going to be a Blue Spot. Because then we can correlate our choices to Hogwarts houses. I would like that.
@ContemplativeFox Welcome to camp yellow. You made the right choice.
Oh no! I didn't realize that there were camps @Jan-Case @Soba45 ! I feel like that time in middle school when I wore red and blue to school and found out that they were gang colors! I haven't tried Red yet and I suspect I'll like it the best (because I enjoy paying large amounts of money to be an elitest @Soba45 :P ). I can still see myself ending up wearing a yellow scarf rather than a red one though because I'm surprised by how rich Yellow Spot's bourbon finish is. It reminds me of Glenfiddich 14, demonstrating that a bourbon finish is entirely different from aging in a tired bourbon barrel. Generally though, I'm more confident that other casks will be better (hence my bet on Red).
One of my favourite Irishes. There are very much 2 camps. Those who love Green better than Yellow and vice versa. Welcome to camp yellow :-). Camp Red is great but a bit elitist as the membership fees are extortionate...
I don’t recall your tastes but what camp are you from?: Yellow, Green or Red?
