Since we launched Distiller in late 2013, our goal has always been to provide a platform for spirits enjoyers to easily find information about the bottles in front of them. Since then, millions of people have used Distiller to learn about spirits, meet new friends to taste with and read and write their own reviews. Now, in our 9th year, we couldn’t be more excited to share the news that in the coming months we’ll be launching a brand new Distiller app for your mobile devices.
This is just the first of many posts we’ll be sharing about how the app works and looks. We’ve rebuilt everything from Search, to bottle pages, to adding reviews, the feed, and much more.
What’s New? Let’s start with Search.
We spent a huge chunk of last year painstakingly digging through data to better understand how and why people use the Distiller app. If you opened the app at any point and saw a survey asking about how you use the app, you were a part of that work, so thank you for your answers. Unsurprisingly, what we learned was that an overwhelming percentage of people use Distiller primarily at the store or the bar as a shopping companion. They run multiple searches while comparing bottles and using Distiller to help them decide what to buy. With that in mind, step one in our efforts was to make Searching and remembering what you’ve already looked at as fast and easy as possible.
Now when you open the app, you’ll land on a Search screen right away. If you have an account you’ll see your most recently viewed spirits so you don’t have to perform the same searches over and over. You’ll also be able to simply tap a spirit type if you’re just looking for ideas about what to try next.
When you’re searching, as soon as you start typing you’ll instantly see results for not only spirits, but countries, spirit styles and, if you’re a Distiller Pro member, flavors. That’s right, Distiller Pro members will now be able to search by flavor profiles! Pro members will also be able to filter by flavor profiles, so say you want your results to have flavor elements of sweetness and peatiness, you can select those filters to see the results.
We’ll have a lot more to share in the coming weeks as we get closer to launch, but we’re so excited that it’s almost time to share what we’ve been working on with you. The app has been rebuilt from top-to-bottom with a new technology framework, new design and new features. It’s lightning fast and it looks great.
