I go back and forth on this one. Some days it seems like a great whiskey for the price, other days it strikes me as a little unusual. When compared side by side with other Irish whiskeys (e.g. Jameson’s Black Barrel, Bushmills 10, Writer’s Tears), this one tastes the most different. The nose has a strong cerealness. On the tongue it has the signature Irish whiskey sweetness, but again a strong cereal taste. For $35 a bottle, it’s a pretty decent dram, but at the end of the day, not my favorite. Of the whiskey’s I’ve mentioned, probably tied for third with Jameson’s Black Barrel.35.0 USD per Bottle

This has become my go to Irish whiskey. The nose reminds me of cedar...a sweet woody aroma. Like many Irish whiskeys, the flavor leans a little sweet, but has a wonderful balance. A little fruity, and the aging in ex-bourbon barrels brings all the vanilla and caramel notes you would expect. Highly recommended.35.0 USD per Bottle

When I first started exploring Irish whiskey, this was my early go to. And if you like a sweeter whiskey, I certainly recommend this one. However, after trying a few other varieties, I decided this one is a little too sweet for my taste. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a very easy drinking whiskey, but for the money, there are other better options (Bushmills 10...Writer’s Tears is a particular favorite). The nose is fruity and sweet. It definitely has that Irish whiskey softness you expect, but the charred oak aging gives it a touch more bite to balance it out. Good stuff...I’ve just since found better.42.0 USD per Bottle

Glenmorangie Lasanta Sherry Cask Finish 12 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed September 8, 2019A sweet nose with a hint of brown sugar. First taste is also sweet, with enough peat to make it interesting. But the finish is a little weak and fades quickly into a faint bitterness. Subsequent sips are never quite as satisfying as the first sip. The peat becomes less noticeable and it becomes a game of replacing the aftertaste with a fresh sip. What’s good about it is pretty good, but not my favorite. I bought this on a whim instead of my go-to Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban. Glad I tried it, but will be returning to GQR next time.50.0 USD per Bottle -
Espolòn Añejo Tequila
Tequila Añejo — Los Altos, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed September 7, 2019 (edited May 11, 2021)This is some good stuff, and very reasonably priced. I’ve come to realize I’m a fan of bourbon-barrel-aging, so the bourbon barrel finish was what drew me in (plus the 92 rating on distiller.com). Suffice it to say, I was not disappointed. I tried it in an old fashioned and it was good, but think I’ll be sipping the rest of the bottle neat...it doesn’t really need anything else! I’m a whiskey drinker first and foremost, but appreciate other spirits as well. And while there are some really good tequillas in the $50 and up range, this was so good, I can’t imagine needing an upgrade anytime soon. This will be a new staple for my personal bar.35.0 USD per Bottle -
Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban 14 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed September 7, 2019 (edited October 14, 2019)This is one of my all time favorites. The nose is incredible. It is a little sweeter than some, but with just a hint of smoke to balance it out. I do tend to lean toward bourbon barrel aged whisky, and this one delivers, with the extra four years in port casks giving it an added depth of character. I was a fan of the 12 year expression and this is a slight improvement over an already excellent dram.52.0 USD per Bottle
