Macallan Double Cask 15 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed September 22, 2020 (edited August 25, 2022)Not as complex or full bodied as some older Mac 12's dating back to 2018. Light sherry sweetness surrounded by a wood sour note. Even after an hour in the glass and a drop of water, it's still rough around the edges and slightly astringent. You get baking spices, sherry, honey and tea on the nose; but it's buried underneath an intense wood sour and slightly sulfuric aroma. Palate is slightly sharp with honey, light sherry and a light coca malt. Everything about this whisky just seems rushed and a little unrefined despite it being a 15yo double casking. For the money I'd stay with the Mac 12 Sherry.130.0 USD per Bottle
