    Peak and smoke, of course - you shouldn’t even be looking in Octomore’s direction if you don’t want peat - but it’s eminently drinkable, spicy and leather notes, with a long, long finish. Probably worth a splash of water to open it and make it a bit more accessible.

    Lovely warm nose, with scents of heather, honey, floral. At ‘Batch’ strength (57.6%) it does benefit from a few drops of water, but it opens to a warm, wonderful and pleasantly spicy. Highly recommended.

    Pleasant nose, and solid malt...lightly spicy notes, bit of sherry/caramel, and bit of honey. Moderately long finish, with pleasant peppery remnants.

    A bit confusing...nearly no nose, and shockingly, nearly no flavour. No bad, but there’s just no there there. Bit of honey, bit of butter, but very little else. I suppose that it’s a good intro to single-malt for Muggles, but not recommended for a more experience saveurs.

    Very, very, very limited nose....but oh, is the sip a delight. Dark fruits, rich, with a pleasantly sweet finish. Incredibly smooth - for 43% ABV it’s easily drinkable with no backlash. A wonderful dram.

    Very subtle nose, delicate and complex. VERY smooth and easy-to-drink, with the trademark apple and subtle caramel notes, and a very short finish. Delicious, and likely a good option for those new to single-malts.

    As with all the distillery’s “Moine” expressions, the smokiness is pronounced and right at the front of the palate, with a medium-to-long finish. Lots of wood tastes (in a delicious way) with a much more accessible option than the Bordeaux-cask option.

    Reasonably aged (NAS, but tastes to be at least 8-10 years) with a delicious smoky flavour and a long-but-not-aggressive finish. Because the spiciness isn’t as overwhelming as the Palo Cortado or Bordeaux expressions, the salt and honey comes through very nicely on this one.

  • Bunnahabhain 2008 Mòine Bordeaux Red Wine Cask Matured

    Very full-bodied, and similarly spicy and aggressive as the 21-year old Palo Cortado. Clearly aged in a Bordeaux cask, it’s lovely and rounded with a pleasant level of smoke. 58% though, so if you’re not expecting cask-strength, might want to have a bit of water handy.
