Belvedere Single Estate Rye: Smogóry Forest
Unflavored Vodka — Poland
Reviewed September 11, 2022 (edited February 9, 2024)N: Clean, bit of very distant rye bread. P: Shockingly smooth, very sweet, huge depth of rye bread broken open on a winter afternoon and eaten outside. Really rich and creamy mouthfeel. Just no bite, at all. Like drinking silk. F: Fades rapidly into a pleasantly sweet gentle linger. I'm not much of a vodka person, mostly due to the American mantra of "flavorless, colorless, odorless." Here, then, is Poland's response to the rest of the West. A single estate rye vodka that has depth, character, and nuance. Absolutely stunning. I'll leave some headroom in case I ever stumble across a better vodka, but I doubt it. 4.75 (read that as 5) -
Widow Jane 10 Year Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — USA
Reviewed September 11, 2022 (edited October 4, 2022)The Widow must have been French, with the toasty bread notes and the creme brûlée foundation. There are some distant fresh cherry notes discernible. It's smooth and easy to sip. Edit: I've now let it breathe for a while (30-45 minutes) and it's lost a lot of its charm somehow. The creamy brûlée has given way to more cherry, oak, and spice. More rye feeling than bourbon. Absolutely not worth the price paid. Not terrible, but wouldn't buy again.77.99 USD per Bottle
