Colonel E.H. Taylor, Jr. Small Batch Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed April 17, 2018 (edited April 18, 2018)I have to give this 5 stars since it's one of my favorites in terms of taste and value. Even though -- as a BIB -- it must be a minimum of 4 years old, I suspect this is older. For 100 proof, I find it smooth with a touch of heat. Nice complexity and nice finish. And while everyone's palate is different, this one hits just about all the right notes for me. Writing this reminds me that I should pick up another bottle. Still affordable here (around $40) in this bourbon-crazed marketplace. -
Old Forester 100 Proof Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed April 17, 2018 (edited April 18, 2018)So, I love a 100 proof point bourbon, but this is a beast. Tried to tame it down with a single cube and it still kicks. I get a lot of wood as an aftertaste which I don't completely care for, but there are some redeeming qualities in terms of taste -- and especially price. I'm thinking this is pretty young and initially think I would much prefer a HH6 to this. I'm going to give it some time...but might be asking for requests on what I might be able to vat this with to reduce the wood and astringency.
