Angel's Envy Rye Finished in Caribbean Rum Casks
Rye — USA
Reviewed December 30, 2016 (edited February 2, 2017)By far one of my favorite ryes. I love the brown sugar on the nose and intense flavors. There is definitely a lot of spice and heat on the end of this one, but this dissipates a bit once the bottle has been open for a while. Feb 2017- just opened a new bottle from 2016. Still great, but this one is less spicy/hot than my prior bottle. Still great flavors! -
Eagle Rare 10 Year Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 30, 2016 (edited January 14, 2017)Love this bourbon at the price point. Smooth and flavorful, a strong reflection of the mash bill used by Buffalo Trace. Make sure to go after single barrel / store picks! -
This is no doubt a great bourbon - complex flavors, and a unique toasted woody nose/flavor. However, the price point is disappointing for me. There are so many other 10 year bourbons on the market, and I will say this is a cut above something like the Eagle Rare 10 year, but for me the price differential is way to much. I paid $170 for my bottle, but have seen some since for around $125 locally. Eagle Rare 10yr is typically around $30 (without a 1 in front of the 30). This would easily be 4 stars if not for the price.

Black Maple Hill Straight Rye
Rye — Oregon, USA
Reviewed December 14, 2016 (edited February 21, 2020)Do not buy this stuff. It is a complete trick. They have changed the source of the bourbon and rye to some small craft outfit in Oregon. This is a just a craft rye spirit and there is MUCH better product a MUCH lower price (e.g. Few Spirits Rye). I am so mad that I paid $100 for this bottle. Tasting notes: 1. Nose is floral/herbacious and alcohol 2. Taste is basically alcohol and florbal/herbs 3. Body is thin, finish is somewhat spicy but goes away quickly after the alcohol taste leaves Really disappointed at the trick this company is trying to play with their bourbon and rye. Again, do not be tempted by the "limited release" on the label and the stores across the U.S. that put this out as if it is some sort of highly coveted, rare masterpiece. It is not, spend your money on something way better. I wouldn't even recommend this at $50, it would have to be $25-$30 so I didn't feel ridiculous just making manhattans and sazeracs with it.
