The last of the 4 Texas Whiskeys I tasted this weekend and wow - this one doesn't disappoint. It's amazing what this distillery can accomplish in such a short amount of time. This time the subtlety of this spirit sticks out. Where I normally look for the big and bold character out of Texas whiskeys - this is the opposite and amazing for it. The light fruits balance by a small amount of phenol is fantastic. Along the same lines as Glenfarclas. WELL DONE BALCONES! There is a reason why this distillery is one of the leaders in the craft distilling movement.

Just wow! This bourbon has flavor - sweet pear, caramel, and molasses on the nose. The flavor is bold with red fruit, clove, cinnamon, and more pear - very thick mouth feel. This is what I expect out of a whiskey aged in Texas - big and bold. It is incredibly soft for something that is 115 proof - I get more burn from most 100 proof whiskeys. Definitely jumps this distillery to one of the best in the state.

To be honest, this bourbon is a bit of a disappointment. At four years of age out of Texas, I expected more flavor and to be honest, better flavor. There is a weird celery note that is pervasive in the middle and finish that I can't get over. Maybe it comes from they're pecan yeast? Not sure, but it's definitely not normal. Is it as awful as lots of the reviews indicate - no. But, it is not something to be sought out - way better Texas whiskeys out there.

One of the most interesting new American whiskeys. This whiskey made with Golden Promise barley malt and has a powerful nose. On the distillery tour they talked a bunch about flavor density and this definitely has it. Rich mouth feel and a long finish. A bit hot for it's proof but full of flavor.
