Good corn flavor, drinks very easily for 100 proof, no burn or bite. Nice flavors that I can’t describe, the word sweet comes to mind. From the back label: “ Ranch Heritage is a unique bonded strength bourbon whiskey coming out of Central Texas. Corn and rye on the mash Bill: simple and elegant. This high rye lens itself and initial toasted apple and cereal spice, then pivots to a finish of peanut brittle with resinous creamy flavors from the corn. Bottled at bonded strength to give you the ability to enjoy as we intended or throw in an ice cube for a beautiful sipper.”45.0 USD per BottleUniversal City Fire Department

If you like corn you will love this bourbon! 95% corn, 5% malt barley. Smells like corn fresh picked, drinks like sweet corn, with a very sweet finish. No burn, no heavy alcohol vapors or bitterness whatsoever. This was a gift from a friend in New York, looking forward to this being distributed nationwide. Well done!

This is distilled in Poland and bottled by the Crowded Barrel Whiskey Co. in Austin Texas. Aged in new oak for seven years and five months. Strong rye with some vanilla or brown sugar on the nose. She is sweet and hot on the pallet, perhaps a hint of leather. Coats the tongue, warms the lips. Definitely a tasty rye.

Brough Brothers Bourbon Whiskey
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 21, 2020 (edited December 6, 2021)discovered this from the 2020 bourbon advent calendar. Love hearing about the new distillery opening up, best of luck to the three brothers! On the nose I immediately thought of scotch. I’m not a scotch fan, I don’t like peat. But for some reason this gives me a scotch vibe. Might be a great gateway for scotch drinker’s into the world of bourbon. keep in mind I’m still new to this hobby myself, so what the heck do I know? :-) On the nose I also got creamy vanilla. I feel the palate is soft and spicy and I taste malt even though it’s only 4% of the mash bill. Finish was light and simple, coating the tongue. Not a high proof, again… I think this is a great gateway drink for folks learning about the world of whiskey. -
Bourbon advent calendar 2020, day 16. I do not like this at all… Bitter, spicy are the dominant flavors. people mentioning vanilla or caramel… I wonder where the heck they are finding those notes. :-) Drinks hotter than 94 proof, apparently I am not a fan of finishes involving Sherrie or wine casks. Adding water brings out the worst in it. Approaching “drain pour“ status.

Balcones Texas Single Malt Single Barrel
American Single Malt — Texas, USA
Reviewed December 2, 2020 (edited August 2, 2022)This is proofy, my bottle was 126.2 proof. Nose had fruit and caramel slightly pallet was hot with lots of vapors that coat your tongue. I am not a scotch fan, this was very slightly peaty after adding some water. The finish lingers with heat and vapors, a good drink if you want to warm up in the winter. :-) -
I’m not good at writing flavor profiles, but this is definitely corn, which I like. 68% Texas and Midwest corn, 22% Canadian rye, and 10% of a two row malted barley. Milled, mashed, fermented, distilled, aged, blended, and bottled by Western Son in pilot point Texas. Reminds me of another north Texas-based brand, Ironroot Hubris, which is also corn-based, but this has less heat/proof.42.0 USD per Bottle

Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey
Flavored Whiskey — USA
Reviewed October 14, 2020 (edited December 20, 2020)Super sweet, this is more like a liqueur than it is a whiskey. Cookie dough on the nose, peanut butter on the finish. Hardly any alcohol burn at all on the pallet. A fun drink, 70 proof… So smooth it can be really dangerous if you’re not careful. Would not buy it myself, but it’s fun to try occasionally… Trying to figure out what to mix it with for fun drinks, maybe with chocolate ice cream. -
Garrison Brothers Small Batch Bourbon Whiskey
Bourbon — Hye, Texas, USA
Reviewed October 7, 2020 (edited August 13, 2021)Corn. If you like corn based whiskey, you will love this stuff. The corn variety used in this batch is food grade #1 White from South Texas. This was aged three years in Oak and released in 2020. 94 proof, The bottle reads as follows: “Every bottle of Garrison Brothers is overflowing with the finest gourmet grade ingredients on the planet. The nectar inside was made from sweet mash-bill and heat forged in the scorching Texas sun, extracting all the flavor possible from our new American white oak barrels, yielding a darker richer and fuller bourbon than any out there.“ My personal take, this stuff is goooooood. My novice tasting notes: The nose is sweet corn and not full of alcohol. It drinks smooth. stays warm after sipping. On a rock it gets sweeter and smoother.
