George Remus Straight Bourbon Whiskey
Bourbon — Indiana, USA
Reviewed December 15, 2020 (edited March 25, 2021)High corn rye whiskey! Rye spice forward with round sweetness to back it up. -
On the palate, picking up notes of caramel, oak, maple syrup, a little rye spice, pecan, a little bit of black cherry and smoke. Straightforward bourbon without a ton of complexity, but tasty nonetheless. A great intro to bourbon option too, even though it’s a newer offering. And major props to Matthew McConaughey for having a celebrity whiskey that is a legitimate bourbon with an ABV above 40%. Well done on a legit whiskey that happens to be a celebrity product, when so many other celebrity alcohol products are swill

Laphroaig 10 Year
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed November 6, 2020 (edited November 11, 2020)Smoke, peat, brine, medicinal herbs and lemon Pledge! The medicinal funk is real! Would recommend a trial dram before buying a bottle because it’s not for everyone (or me) but if you like the funk you will love it. While it’s not for me, I can really appreciate what it is.50.0 USD per Bottle -
Knappogue Castle 12 Year Bourbon Cask Matured
Single Malt — Ireland
Reviewed November 6, 2020 (edited March 31, 2021)Flavors of honey, nuttiness and light spice with a backbone of oak. Sweeter than a typical unpeated scotch and richer than a typical Irish whiskey, a great gateway drug for a scotch drinker into Irish.46.0 USD per Bottle -
Malty and butterscotch on the nose. Oaky and fruity with notes of pear and green apple turn to saltiness and a bit of sherry and a touch of smoke into a long slightly smoky finish. Complex but easy drinking. Sweet and fruity, slightly funky, and just a tiny bit smoky. Looked up the cask combination on their website and my bottle recipe was mostly 1st fill bourbon barrels alongside a combination of different sherry and French wine barrels with a minimum age of 8 years.56.0 USD per Bottle

Defiant American Single Malt Whisky
Other Whiskey — North Carolina, USA
Reviewed September 22, 2020 (edited November 9, 2020)Typical scotch notes with a fresh oak bite. Caramel, vanilla, oak and honey turn to more spice and bite from the youth of the wood used for aging. Like a richer Speyside flavor meets bourbon wood bite. A good change of pace dram for the single malt collector.
