Macallan 15 Year Triple Cask Matured
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed December 31, 2020 (edited December 22, 2021)Fruit cake, vanilla, and dried fruit on the nose; very reminiscent of panetone (Italian fruit cake). On the palate: honey, vanilla, light sherry, plum/red fruit, oak, and a lasting sweet finish. The sherry is well integrated, as opposed to being a sherry bomb. A sweet but balanced and oaky dram. Very nice -
Highland Park 12 Year Viking Honour
Single Malt — Islands, Scotland
Reviewed December 30, 2020 (edited August 18, 2021)Light/clean peat smoke leads into sherry/fruitcake sweetness, and then overbrewed jasmine tea and orange, and then a slightly lingering sweet finish. A killer complex whisky. A real kitchen sink of peaty, sherried, and classic single malt whisky -
Knob Creek Smoked Maple
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 15, 2020 (edited December 6, 2021)Classic bourbon largely overshadowed by a wall of maple syrup. Purchased this as something my girlfriend was interested in. Too much whiskey for her, too much straight maple for me. Gonna try and make some cocktails with it -
Jameson Caskmates Stout Edition
Blended — Ireland
Reviewed December 15, 2020 (edited December 28, 2020)More than a novelty! Classic honey and shortbread/biscuit notes with a big addition of milk chocolate, rich vanilla and malt notes from the stout barrel finish. Sweet, but not overly so. Not a dram to contemplate over or analyze, but one hell of a fun drink.
