Tamnavulin Red Wine Cask Edition (Spanish Grenache Cask Finish)
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed May 6, 2021 -
It's got a perfect combo of sweetness and smoke (coming from someone who doesn't like the punchy smoke of Laphroaig - if that's for you, then this might be too tame on the peat notes). This has a good amount of bite to it, a kick of spice and plenty to chew on. A whisky for those who want to ride the wave of sweet and smoky.

I'm a big fan of Scapa Skiren for a subtle balanced whisky, so thought I'd try what they offer in their peated whisky, the Glansa. Again, Scapa provide subtlety and balance. It's got a enjoyable combo of sweetness and smoke (coming from someone who doesn't like the punchy smoke of Laphroaig - if that's for you, then this might be too tame on the peat notes). I compare this to the brilliant balance of Kilkerran 12, although the Glansa isn't quite as complex in flavour - Kilkerran has a bit more to chew on. But the Scapa Glansa is a brilliant light peat whisky for those who want whisky on the borderline of sweet and smoky.

Loch Lomond Single Grain
Single Grain — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed August 22, 2020 (edited January 27, 2022)I love my whisky to be sweet. This one has plenty of tropical notes and velvety vanilla. Bought it because I heard it was full of banana notes. I can get some banana, but it comes in second to vanilla. It's a really good value whisky. Tasty and easy drinking, but I prefer this to the other whiskies that I would call easy drinking (such as Glenlivet). I enjoy having a dram of this, but it's also a perfect addition to my infinity bottle. -
