RHF has one of the best nosing experiences in a bourbon. It greets you with ripe peaches, thick caramel sauce, leather, white chocolate, boozy cherries and a hint of oak. It definitely makes its presence known. On the taste the arrival is bold rye and cinnamon spice with some citrus tart. (maybe the peaches were not ripe?) Haha. The finish is long and numbs the inside of your mouth. It’s very thick, it coats everything and leaves a dry oaky finish. It’s the most complex of Mashbill #2 from Buffalo Trace and perhaps the best offering.

Kirk and Sweeney 12 Year Rum
Aged Rum — Dominican Republic
Reviewed August 22, 2020 (edited May 14, 2021)I am not by any means the most experienced rum drinker. I come from drinking Scotch, Irish, Japanese whisky and Bourbon. But for roughly $30 this is a great sipper. It’s very vanilla forward almost overpowering with vanilla extract sweetness. But buried underneath there’s toasted pecans, lemon zest, barrel char and earthy black tea notes. It’s not complex but for $30 and a 12 year age statement there’s really not much to complain about. -
Nose: Up front very sweet oak, oranges, molasses and chocolate syrup. However the oak buries everything else and causes it to be slightly muted. Palate: Oak... an abundance of bitter oak, dried fruits, dark chocolate, a rise in heat with a sweet and sour tongue drying finish. I bought this at $120 and have owned this bottle for a year. I’ve chipped away at it monthly. It’s opened up but not enough to diminish or really enhance it. It more or less stayed the same. Even at $120 I can’t recommend it. But if you’re an oak person or an Orphan Barrel collector then I can.
