Tastes

I tried this when it first released and was not impressed. Bought a mini today to revisit years later. A lot of reviews are saying banana bread on the nose. I had some banana bread earlier today. And I can't really argue with that note. It's definitely there. There's a hint of caramel, too. And a little bit of oak. The palate, for me, is overwhelmed with barrel spice. Not much oak, because it still tastes young. But I think the delicacy of the wheat is allowing that char spice to pop out. There's a hint of astringency that I could do without. I'm not getting as much sweetness as other reviews seem to. Willett pot still and Legent are two that I have been spending a lot of time with lately. And both are far sweeter with more interesting palates and fuller mouth feel. I don't mean to imply that those are fair comparisons. But merely examples of common whiskies that dwarf Larceny in sweetness. Making Larceny's sweetness nothing to write home about. The finish is probably my favorite part of this bourbon. Not because they finish is particularly great. But because the rest of the experience isn't. Perhaps wheaters aren't for me.
