Tastes

Opens with some ripe fruit sweetness amd then settles in, mid pallet for a solid, buttery, caramel finish. Its a a very solid finish, soft and viscous.

It runs a little hot for 100 Proof, so prepare accordingly to taste it. The oak is the first thing that hits. Shows signs of maturity up front. As the heat dissipates there is a grape note and some more obvious signs of the barrel finishing. It has a nice depth, but loses some points for being a bit harsh at this price point. 5x the price of a standard Angels Envy at 1.5x the quality.

Barrel SB - 230792 A little hot, coming in at 110 Proof, but drinks like its higher. Once you get into it, you get some nice dried fruit and toffee at the end. Lots of toffee...the sweetness really lingers in the finish. Its a little bit tight, the tannins will let you know they're there, but let it linger and thats when it pays off. A drop of water is worthwhile.

I hate the term smooth....but when it doesn't have a lot going on, that's the only word left. Its an easy sipper, light on the pallet, some soft corn and then a rye bite that isnt unpleasant. The finish is longer than youd expect. A bit "one note", but well executed.

Coming from Wild Turkey, I was expecting something different...but I wasnt disappointed. It's a little rough at the finish, but fairly complex, all things considered.
