Larceny Small Batch Kentucky Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 30, 2022 (edited January 3, 2023)Overall: A great value. Has the depth of flavor that I Iook for after about 20 minutes in the glass. Id love to compare this to Weller SR when those bottles were around $30, but those days are behind us. Nose: Corn, bread, coconut. Really opens up to a maple syrup smell with 20 minutes. Palate: Sweet and smooth at first, with a nice oaky spice on middle of the sip. With air it develops more distinct sweet bread notes, and thickens up the mouthfeel a nice amount. Finish: Medium in length with a warm candied cherry on the exhale. The candied cherries morph into a banana bread, depending on the sip. I feel like this is where wheated bourbons really shine... at least this one.25.0 USD per Bottle -
Michter's US*1 Kentucky Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 29, 2022 (edited December 30, 2022)Overall: Its a solid drink that won't disappoint. The price point is competitive, and there are other options, but for my taste, at $45, I have a hard time not having a bottle around for special sips. However, I regularly see this at $60+ and at that price it wouldn't be the same. Nose: Black cherry, light bits of vanilla, a sweet syrupiness develops with some air. Palate: the cherry hits pretty sharp alongside an oaky spice. Although the dark fruit up front has a tartness to it, the sip transitions to a rich vanilla infused molasses flavor nicely. Finish: medium long finish with a nice caramel note that lingers and leaves you wanting more.45.0 USD per Bottle -
Old Overholt Bonded Straight Rye Whiskey
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 27, 2022 (edited December 28, 2022)Overall: There is a lot of competition in the <$25.00 range, if this was $20 dollars or less I'd grab it all day, but as it approaches the $25 mark I feel like it doesn't have the depth of flavor to compete. All the same, it is a straight ahead enjoyable rye. Nose: Pumpernickel bread that morphs into a sugary spice. Palate: A nice medium mouthfeel, with plenty of rye spice up front, but quickly follows up with a sugary bubblegum esq flavor. Finish: medium in length, but with a great exhale flavor of woody malt.25.0 USD per Bottle -
J.T.S. Brown Bottled In Bond
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 27, 2022 (edited September 15, 2023)Overall: Really great value. While it doesn't have a heavy mouthfeel, it does have a decent depth of flavor. The glass morphs for the better as it airs out. Nose: ethanol forward, light apricot, sugary toasted marshmallow, maple syrup after opening up. Palate: Nutty caramel and vanilla at first that fade into a peachy fruit thinness. Not a super heavy mouth feel but enjoyable. Remarkably smooth for 100 proof. Finish: a light to medium finish, but with that quality ?cherry? note on the exhale that so many good bourbons have.17.0 USD per Bottle
