Aberlour 12 Year Double Cask Matured
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed August 1, 2014 (edited August 23, 2019)A friend got a bottle as a gift. As a way into scotch for a burbon lover, this is prefect. I was never very find of scotch till I tried this. It made me realize that what I was judging as scotch before was just through a limited range. Very nicely balanced to my tasts. I tend to drift towards the fruit and smooth side so adjust your expectations accordingly. I also always drink whisky neat. -
I'm mostly new to Japanese whisky. I had a flight one night with the 3 most popular ones (including Yamazaki) and this one stood out to me. Easily drinkable, silky smooth with a sweet caramel finish. And I swear, to my tastes, it's has a nice smokyness that makes it tast a lot like scotch than any other (non-scotch) whisky I've tastes so far. Beautyful bottle too. While I really, really like this Japanese whisky, $65 is a bit much to pay for it though.
