(Good Spirits Co. Glasgow – Virtual Whisky Tasting, 1st October 2021). Nose: Petrol, oil, orchard fruit, red berries, treacle toffee Palate: Nutty, oak, cherries, salt & pepper, raisins, dates, plum jam Finish: Medium short finish. Chocolate, black pepper, leather, dark fruits, dusty. There’s a dry woodiness on the aftertaste. 1 of 14,088 bottles Casks filled 07 Feb 2011 Concentrated and unctuous. There’s a beautiful sweet fruitiness throughout, with loads of chocolate on the aftertaste. A cracker of a dram! Came first out of the six drams, with 60% (6 votes) of the final vote for favourite of the night. 90% (9 votes) of those present said they enjoyed the whiskey. This got my vote for favourite of the tasting.

Palate: Light peat, dry, toffee, sweet. Petrol, slightly sour butter. Cooked apple Finish: Medium long finish. Very smooth. Toffee, penny caramels, chocolate, milky coffee This is a great, slightly dirty tasting whisky. Smooth, layered and chocolatey on the finish. Delicious! Uses brewers yeast - making it more old fashioned in style. Nose: Fruit, sour & sweet, furniture polish, green/hay Palate: Prunes, gristy, oaky, Cognac, ginger, lemon drops Finish: Medium long finish. Ginger, black pepper, grape juice, brandy apples. Souring on the aftertaste. Lovely brandies airy whisky. You could easily think of this being a Calvados (although more peppery throughout). Finished for 6-months in a French brandy cask Single cask Distilled: June 2008 Bottled: 2021 1 of 380x 50cl bottles Came joint last out of the six drams, with 0% (0 votes) of the final vote for favourite of the night. 90% (9 votes) of those present said they enjoyed the whiskey.

Nose: Red apple, grape juice, honey, sweet & malty Palate: Fresh fruit (red apple), plum, cherry, orange peel Finish: Medium long finish. Orange, citrus, baking spices. You can definitely taste the wine/grape on the finish. Souring on the aftertaste. Tomatin predominant in the blend 1 of 6,000 bottles 45% malt / 55% grain Lovely milky mouthfeel. A little more full-bodied than you might typically expect from a blend - possibly due to the high malt content. Came third out of the six drams, with 10% (1 vote) of the final vote for favourite of the night. 90% (9 votes) of those present said they enjoyed the whiskey.

Nose: Vanilla, cream, peach Palates: Floral, apricot, lychee, oak, vanilla, old fashioned car sweets / boiled sweets Finish: Medium finish. Hints of smoke. Stone fruit and orchard fruit. This is a summer whisky. Very easy to drink. Not a heavy hitter, but it is a fresh & tasty dram.

Nose: Salty, toffee, honey, apple, alcoholic Palates: Spirit forward, spicy, warming, fruity and malty Finish: Medium finish. Smoky, spicy, sweet This is a ‘pub’ whisky. It’s OK, but forgettable. Couldn’t be considered a bad dram, but there’s nothing to make it stand out.

Nose: Citrus, vanilla, artificial seeetner Palates: Rough & alcoholic, burnt sugar, dark chocolate, sweet Finish: Long finish. Dark chocolate, coffee, tobacco. Tannic and drying This is a rough, alcoholic and burnt tasting whisky. Pretty bad!

Nose: Floral, orange, honey, dried apricots, heavy red wine Palates: Dried dark fruit, chocolate, spices (ginger, allspice & white pepper), oak Finish: Medium finish. Citrus, gooseberry, orange, toffee, dry Batch 4 1 of 322 bottles This is a whisky to ponder over. Luxurious and very well layered.

Nose: Umami, soy sauce, chocolate, toffee, vanilla. Green & Fresh. Palates: Spicy, ginger, black pepper, chilli, chocolate, walnut, oak, cherries Finish: Medium finish. Leather, oak, surprisingly fresh fruit (apples, plums, peaches) 1 of 260 bottles Thick and unctuous, very well integrated layers - there’s a lot going on in this dram. Hard to pin down the tastes and ever changing. Delicious! A great grain whisky - possibly one of the best single grain whiskies I’ve tasted.

Nose: Summer fruit & berries, warm, floral Palate: Sweet, fruity, brown sugar, lime/sour, treacle Finish: Short finish. Honey, oak, spice There’s a gentleness to this that makes it easy to drink. Overall, it’s a little bit ‘meh’. Not a bad whisky, but not memorable or interesting.
