Wild Turkey Rare Breed Barrel Proof Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed May 29, 2020 (edited June 5, 2020)Oak, vanilla, and pepper immediately on the nose with a slight hint of banana nut bread. Spicy and peppery on the front end of the palate. Oak and light smoky flavor mid-palate. Long peppery finish trailing off to a vanilla. I would not recommend for the newbie bourbon drinker due to the immediate peppery taste from the high proof. I prefer this spirit on the rocks to mellow out the upfront pepper. -
George Dickel TABASCO Brand Barrel Finish
Flavored Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed May 20, 2020 (edited July 24, 2022)Do not get confused with the George Dickel name on the bottle as this is not a whiskey. On the nose it is sweet with a slight chile pepper scent hovering in the background. It is interesting enough to lure you to take a sip at which time you are overwhelmed with the sweetness. This is not to be confused with a good honey or sweet corn flavor but instead douses your palate in a pure simple syrup flavor. There is a Tabasco on the back of the palate on the tail end of the finish. I would only recommend this as a spirit best enjoyed as a shot similar to Fireball without the cinnamon. -
Not much complexity on the nose. Some oak scent with a hint of berry. Very thin on the palate with a hint of fruit and grass. Surprisingly there is no vanilla or baking spices that you would expect from a 7 year old whiskey. It tastes much younger with no complex notes. Although the label states it was aged in new oak barrels, it tastes like it was aged in a previously used barrels void of any flavors you would get from a deeply charred new oak barrel. I would liken it to chewing on a piece of wheat straw to pass the time on a hot summer day.
