Working on my rating methodology and determining how my average rating lands. That said, ECSB has grown on me some; I was not impressed at first pour but with time, I’ve made peace with this bottle. That sweet, corny shine hits the nose with that cherry almost grenadine undertone. The palate is a boxing match between oak and meager heat being refereed by a Luden’s cough drop.

Highland Park 12 Year
Single Malt — Islands, Scotland
Reviewed February 14, 2020 (edited March 21, 2020)Certainly beautiful, a smooth and wonderful companion with that Twizzler note I hunt for voraciously. Nothing offensive, everything harmonizing and in balance. At times almost too rich, but hey, I’d rather pace myself over decadence rather than heat any day. The peat hides like an Easter egg.Voila! Michter's US*1 Kentucky Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 14, 2020 (edited January 16, 2021)This bottle of Michter’s taught me how important choice of glass is. Truly better than my original taste. Would I buy again? Not my first choice, but I’d choose it over many bourbons I’ve had before. -
Heritage Distilling Co Elk Rider Blended Whiskey
Blended — Washington , USA
Reviewed February 14, 2020Young, unruly. The nose has something green to it: almost bay leaves, but closer to crunchy oak leaves. Wants to be sweet, but almost like paint. Taste is mellow initially but followed by a wave of chaotic mixed messages. Like... well, like riding an elk, actually. -
Larceny Small Batch Kentucky Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 14, 2020 (edited March 14, 2020)Something interesting going on here... there wants to be nuts, and baking spices but there’s an iodine/tannin note that is having no patience for any tomfoolery. The oak gives your tongue splinters but the finish and nose repents.
