Walleye Run Very Small Batch Malted Rye Whiskey Double Barrel (2024-1)
Rye — Michigan, USA
Reviewed August 11, 2025Nice solid pour. It's got that fruity, pot still whiskey on the nose, rye herbalness/mint isn't really there. Front palate is clean, leading to the mid palate of light vanilla and brown sugar, and wood. Finishes well, but again, very clean. This isn't a complex or heavily layered whiskey, but it portrays it's core flavors well, and it very crushable. I think it's priced a bit high, but it's their own distillate aged for 7 year from a craft distillery, so I guess price is higher for that reason.80.0 USD per Bottle -
Very good bottle and one of the best rum finishes I've had. On Fresh Crack - Alot of typical bourbon notes, vanilla and caramel sweetness to start off along with the rum barrel funk, spice and peppery bites. 2 Weeks After Opening (80% Remaining) - Barrel funk is gone, caramel and burnt brown sugar comes first, followed by a much mellower/smoother spice and pepper. I like this one alot, I'd give it a higher score if it was cheaper.160.0 USD per Bottle

People say they don't like the Dickel in it, but it doesn't bother me whatsoever. If I blinded this, I would have said the front/mid palate reminded me of a nice 9 year Russell's Single Barrel pick from CN-F that I have. But I would say the finish is quite different then the Russells, not unpleasant, but different. I'm giving it a 4.25, becuase I really enjoy it. But I'm knocking down 0.25 star becuase of the price point. I paid $120 for this, but despite the price, it's still very good. But if it came in around $80, it would be a buy all day for me, and I would give it a 4.5. For reference, here is the blend: - 35% Georgia 8 Year - 31% Kentucky 12 Year - 19% Tennessee 17 Year - 15% Ontario 12 Year120.0 USD per Bottle
