Chattanooga Whiskey Cask 111
Bourbon — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed January 25, 2020 (edited September 4, 2020)It's taken a few rounds to identify the flavor, and I definitely pick up the anise notes, which is not one of my favorites. Subtle, but now that I found it I can't shake it. Otherwise it's okay, and some folks will really like it - just not me. -
Dry Fly Cask Strength Straight Wheat Whiskey
Wheat Whiskey — Washington, USA
Reviewed January 18, 2020 (edited February 18, 2021)I'm a fan of anything cask strength because I like the flavor intensity and don't mind a bit of burn on my way to understanding what the distiller was going for. I think there are a couple of harsh reviews about this whiskey, maybe too harsh. Is it great? No. But it is rather good as an opportunity to taste a full-wheat whiskey and to explore something different. I agree that it should have stayed in the barrel for a few more years to give the angels a bit more and gain a lot more from the charred oak. Maybe next time. -
Maker's Mark Wood Finishing Series 2019 RC6
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed January 16, 2020 (edited February 6, 2020)By far my favorite, Makers' wheat rich mash bill makes their cask strength even smoother, much better than a lot of 86 proof dilutions that, although easier on the surface, lack the richness and flavor found at 108.7, my most recent bottle's final designation. -
Homegrown Boone's Bourbon
Bourbon — South Carolina , USA
Reviewed January 13, 2020 (edited July 4, 2021)Got this at barrel proof, 114, has a rye nose but not overpowering, tastes sweet but not as spicy as the nose would lead me to believe, and goes down nice and warm due to the proof. Pretty good for a 6 month old, I'd love to try it again if they have a barrel aging longer.38.95 USD per BottleRiver Stone Wine Spirits Brew -
Evan Williams 1783 Bourbon (80 Proof)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 29, 2019 (edited February 1, 2020)The "expert" rating is full of itself. Yes, this is what you expect from a bourbon. And since when was that a bad thing? It's definitely a step above EW Black, and nestled comfortably between black and Single Barrel. How it rates below black is truly a mystery. Definitely worth the 7 dollars extra for the 1.75l bottle.
