Macallan has its ways. They all have the Macallan aroma with slight changes. They all taste good enough. This one, part of their newest collection, "the quest collection" is no exception. If you are a Macallan Fan you will truly enjoy it, if you are not, (like me) you will also enjoy it as any other macallan, which i always say is the only distiller whose whiskies never have a score lower than 85 over 100. Bottled at 43.8%abv, sunset orange color (website definition lol) On the nose: its a macallan. I believe i could recognize the aroma in a blind tasting without even trying. Sherry, oak, candied fruits, christmas cake, raisins, cinnamon, cola and clove. Just incredible. On the palate it doesn't match the "amazingness" of its aroma. Liquorice, oak, almonds, nutmeg, some sherry. Finish is medium with hints of cinnamon. Overall this nice dram deserves what most macallans deserve, an 89 over 100 score.

Macallan Edition No. 3
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed April 8, 2020 (edited June 20, 2020)To end my "Special Macallan review" no we go on Macallan edition 3, far better than the No 2, but not quite as good as No. 1. This was also part of the special private tasting in Whisky Live Buenos Aires. For a little history here, this dram was made after hiring Roja Dove, a perfume maker, to select by smell the best oak casks to trascend the best aromas into the whisky. Bottled at 48.3%abv; On the nose, very sweet: Vanilla cream, Orange, Chocolate but dim aroma. Very Fresh. On the palate, Oak, Liquorice, Ginger, Chocolate. The finish was short but pleasant, a little spicy. On a great remark by the Macallan Ambassador, he told us that Macallan does not pay to be in any movies or tv series, as SUITS, and if you see macallan bottles on any film or tv series, that is free publicity for the brand. Overall i give this dram a solid 86/100. It is a collectable but i dont know if the price is fair for what you get. Slainte! -
Macallan Fine Oak 15 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed April 8, 2020 (edited December 20, 2020)You know i am not a great Macallan fan, but this one was an spectacular dram. I had read somewhere that when you try any of the fine oak expressions, you have tried them all since they are similar... what a false fact that was. This has nothing to do with the 10yo. Bottled at 40%abv On the nose is amazing: fresh lemon peel and lemon pie. Vanilla plant and Honey. Its aroma is super nice, well made. On the palate is amazing. There is this macallan typical profile but much more peppery. Dry grass notes too. DELCIOUS. Finish is short but pleasant, this is where it lost some points. This is a very delicious and balanced dram, that is why i give it a 91 over 100. -
Macallan 18 Year Sherry Oak Cask
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed April 8, 2020 (edited April 4, 2021)I have seen this drink on the tv series "suits". Since i am an attorney i always wanted to try it and frankly it is a good dram, but not the end of the world, specially for the high price of it. Bottled at 43%abv, deep copper color. On the nose, a perfumed note of sherry, better than the 12yo, vanilla powder and lemon. Pretty nice aroma. On the palate is a little harsh, (i am constantly dissapointed of 18yo drams), with a liquorice, oaky note, some brown sugar and creme bruleé. It is a thick but hot dram, harsher but slightly better than the 12yo, both matured in sherry casks, and the finish is medium long, with spicu clove notes. Overall i give this dram an 85 over 100, which is a normal score for macallans when i rate them. Cheers! -
Macallan 12 Year Sherry Oak Cask
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed April 8, 2020 (edited May 1, 2020)Fantastic Dram. Although it is inferior for me, compared to my all time favorite Royal Salute, or Johnnie XR, this one disputes the third place with Hibiki Harmony. On the nose you get dried fruits, almonds maybe, oakyness and a lot of wood smoke. On the palate starts sweet like caramel but rapidly turns hot, very very hot and spicy, with a medium smoky finish which is awesome. Great experience -
Very pleasant whisky, it is better on the palate than in the nose. A tipical Macallan Flavor and profile. On the nose you get Medicinal plants, Coffee, butterscotch, a very Small peat maybe not peatiness but Very perfumed. I also got Tobacco notes. On the palate is Sweet and Spicy with a remarkable Plum flavor that turns into a Complex flavor of Tabacco, Oak, and Cinnabon. Short finish but Very pleasant

This is a great whisky. But not only that, the bottle is very pretty too. It has a photo of a galaxy in the label and the box, because this is a limited edition to celebrate Ernie Button a space photographer. Bottled at 45.7%abv. On the nose is very interesting, burnt Caramel, Vanilla plant, Herbal Pine, some of the Typical macallan aroma, raisins, Chocolate with raisins, Cream and Blackberry jam. If it werent so dim, it would be perfect. On the palate it is not that great but still a very nice whisky. Clove, Grapes, Raisins old Orange peel, maybe some cabernet sauvignon notes. Finish is wonderful and eternal. The best part of it. Clove, ginger and pepper. Overall this is a solid 94 over a 100. It is a $500 bottle, that in my books would be fair at $170-200. Slainte!

Macallan Sienna 1824 Series
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed April 8, 2020 (edited July 1, 2020)I had high hopes for this dram, and when i opened the bottle the aroma was so nice that my expectations rised a little bit. The palate was dissapointing and the finish short. For $90 a bottle, i don't think it is a worthy dram. Bottled at 43%abv, with a SIENNA color (tawny) which comes natural, and there is where this bottle catches its name. On the nose is really beautiful. Sherry notes, caramel, syrup, candy, liquorice and some herbal notes. On the palate is not what you expect. This is a hot dram, liquorice notes, the sherry note is too dim, tobacco note is solid and the most remarkable flavor is ashes, with a bitter short finish. Overall i give this dram an 83 over 100, and it didn't live to its marketing. -
When drinking an expensive dram, you expect quality and interesting flavors. This great whisky delivers the promise for most part and my score do not reflect what it really is. It is made by maturing it in 16 different "first filled" sherry casks. Bottled 43%abv, polished mahogany color. On the nose is spectacular: Sherry, Candied fruits, fresh Lemon, Oranges, very perfumed, Coffee, elegant Toffee. Complex yet fruity and lovely. On the palate is a typical macallan, and dissapoints a little, but it is a solid dram: Strong yet pleasant oak and Orange candy. Finish is short but spicy, elegant ginger and mint. My conclusion: it could have been better. A little too straightforward, (i find that sometimes expensive, fancy drams tend to be soft and smooth but not too interesting). Overall it is an 88 over 100, and for the price, only the nose part is worthy.

Longmorn The Distiller's Choice
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed April 8, 2020 (edited January 13, 2022)"The best kept secret in Scotland" is the slogan for this distillery owned by Pernod Ricard and i had the chance to try four expressions of this whisky. This one is special because it has been matured in three types of different casks: hogsheads, Oloroso Sherry and Bourbon barrels. Bottled at 40%abv On the nose: Peaches, Floral. Very perfumed. There is some citrus like lime. Dryness appears. Fruitcake. On the palate it is very gentle but i could only identify two clean notes: almonds and red apples. Aftertaste is also very clean, tobacco, dry grass and hay. Overall it is a good, balanced everyday dram. It goes for $60. My score for it is 82/100
