Glenfiddich Winter Storm 21 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed April 5, 2020 (edited November 10, 2020)As far as experiments go, this is one that fits that profile. A wonderful expression from Glenfiddich, this is the #3 experiment (i have reviewed the IPA cask one, the #1, and soon i will be reviewing the #2). Bottled at 43%abv, amber color. On the nose is so beautiful. Red y purple fruits, impalpable sugar, fresh aroma that resembles a cold weather (really), very sweet sherry like those very sweet red wines, strawberry juice. On the palate, spicyness dance with sweet grape notes, blackberry juice, a dim smoke on the back, very pleasant and fancy, hints of clove can be found on the palate. The aftertaste is a little short, with ginger notes and plain water; it is the only sad part of it. Overall this is a lovely dram that could be better, but still a solid 92 over 100. Slainte! Almost forgot! This one has a 21yo age statement. -
Glenfiddich Project XX
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed April 5, 2020 (edited November 20, 2021)I have finally tasted the 3 experimental series bottles of Glenfiddich. This "experiment No. 2" is a whisky made allegedly by 20 brand ambassadors, each one allegedly picked one cask of the distillery and they have blend them all. Bottled at 47%abv Well, this is a very interesting dram. My nosing notes are: foam (carnival foam, the one kids throw on each other, comes in cans), brown sugar, apples, prunes, impalpable sugar. So many nose profiles due to the mixture of may casks. A very artificial aroma. On the palate is not that great, without been a bad dram. A little strong maybe, due to its 47%abv. Oak presence is strong, liquorice, pepper, mango, caramel. Cloying sensation in the mouth because of its sweetness. The finish is medium with tobacco notes. Overall i give this interesting and exotic dram a fair 87 over 100. I can now tell you that out of the 3 experiments, winter storm (No.3) is the best by far and you could just buy the 3 bottles to have the collection, but only the 3rd one is really worth your time. Not bad drams at all, but their marketing is better than the actual drams. -
Glenfiddich IPA Experiment
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed April 5, 2020 (edited October 3, 2020)Different. That is the term here. Can you imagine a Whisky that tastes more than less as a beer (craft beer)? Well this dram achieves that goal. Bottled at 43%abv, burnished gold. This one is made by maturing the whisky in Indian Pale Ale casks (a type of a bitter beer). On the nose: hops? Foam? Carnival foam? Orange definitively, sweet, honey, cake, custard cream. a little spicy. Rare whisky. Interesting. On the palate is very spicy, clove, but amazingly balanced. Some orange notes, tastes exactly as a craft beer. Finish is pleasant and a little spicy, leaving a mouthfull of allspice. Nice. Overall i give this interesting dram an 80 over 100, and i do recommend you grab a bottle and give it a try, it is different from everything else. Slainte! -
Glenfiddich Vintage Cask
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed April 5, 2020 (edited September 30, 2021)This is no Glenfiddich. This is Talisker Skye. Bottled at 40%abv, with a deep copper color. On the nose it is Talisker Skye. On the palate is Talisker Skye. Lol Really, i love talisker skye and i can recognize it in a blind taste. And this Glenfiddich Vintage reserve cask, was the expensiest of 3 new "reserve cask" series for the travel retail market, and has no trace of a Glenfiddich or a Speyside whatsoever. On the nose all those Island aromas: Salt, Smoke, peat, burnt rubber and seaweed. On the palate: salt, rubber, burnt meat, cough syrup, with a nedium finish. Full bodied. Overall it is a great talisker skye, but talisker skye cost half the price, so pick that one up, since it is the same thing. 89/100 -
This Whisky is what i expect from a new dram: something diferent. It actually smells like Champagne and it tastes as Champagne, and if it werent for the slight peatyness i would say: "this is champagne". First of all i think this one is hard to find, i found it on a friend's tray as an ornament in her bar, i was shock by founding something like this and let her know i wanted to taste it. She gave me her full 5cl mini bottle and i surely enjoyed it. On the nose... well it is champagne. The first note you got is champagne, grapes and a fading peatyness which is present in a nice way. Bottled at 43%abv it has a pale straw color. if you let it sit for a while (i did) you will then find maltyness, oak, brown grass, almonds and tobacco. The aroma is complex and beautiful. On the palate is very very spicy in a pleasant way, mouth watering, feels also a lot as champagne so you can tell it is fruity, grapes everywhere, earthy (like some wines) with hints of peat with medicinal plants as eucaliptus maybe. it is medium bodied and the finish is also medium with lots of spices, oakyness and a little hot. Overall it is a beautiful dram, i took the empty 5cl bottle home to show my friends this mini trophy, it is worth it. great dram.

Glenfiddich Snow Phoenix
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed April 5, 2020 (edited July 3, 2022)Hello friends! I finally achieved one of my dreams and went to Scotland. A beautiful experience where i managed to taste more than 60 whiskies in 10 days. One of them, was the iconic Glenfiddich Snow Phoenix. A very limited release from 'fiddich, with a nice story. It seems that in 2010, one of their warehouses collapsed because of the heavy snow that fell. From the barrels that survived, this whisky was born. Labeled as "The Snow Phoenix", a mythical bird that rises from the snow tragedy. Bottled at 47.6%abv, pale straw color. On the nose, it is complex. Green apples, Chocolate, Some lemon with spices; Vanilla cream, thick. Some sherriness spice. Chocolate fudge. On the palate: Vanilla, Pleasant spices, Some chocolate, Almonds. Vanilla Milkshake that turns into an apple juice, that then turns into pleasant spiciness. Very complex and interesting. Aftertaste is good. Sider, ginger, creamy. Very pleasant. Overall, this is a great whisky. Since i have the bottle back home, unopened, i had a special feeling for it, and that sonehow made me think this one was going to be a 100, but it is not. A solid, well deserved 92 over a 100 is a suitable score for it. -
Glenfiddich Age of Discovery Madeira Cask 19 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed April 5, 2020 (edited April 10, 2020)Simply outstanding. Marvelous. This Glenfiddich 19yo Age of Discovery Madeira cask, is very fancy. Bottled at 40%abv, with a beautiful mahogany color. I loved everything about it, but specially the palate. On the nose you will find Liquorice, brown sugar, cremè brulee, some salt, sweet bread, caramel and gummy bears. The problem is that i had it on a tumbler glass and not in a glencairn so i can't really tell you if it has a dim aroma or not. It seems you have to work hard to get your nosing right on this beauty. On the palate, it is very smooth and sugary with a gentle hotness, very Fancy indeed. Main notes: Refined liquorice Very pleasant, Brown sugar and creme brulee, Oaky but sweet at the same time. Finish is full of an ashy spicyness and a touch of slight peatyness. Wonderful. Overall this is a 93/100, a great, great dram. -
Glenfiddich Age of Discovery Bourbon Cask 19 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed April 5, 2020 (edited January 30, 2021)Before even start talking about this dram lets be clear about some things: 1.- i had before the 19yo age of discovery madeira wood cask. It is better than this one, although they are both very similar. 2.- fancy whiskies are, in my opinion, a little easier to drink, not having bold flavors or aromas. 3.- this is a superb dram, and my score will not do justice to it. Having said that, this 40%abv dram, is one of 3 "age of discovery" special bottles from Glenfiddich, and let me tell you, this is as great as the madeira wood cask i reviewed earlier this year. On the nose it is a little dim, but lovely: Salt, Wine, Brown sugar, Milk chocolate, Juicy purple Grapes. On the palate it was absolutely a kiss from an angel, veey very Sweet, Sugar, Ginger, Liquorice. It is so marvelous and thick in your palate. I get Honey, mellowed notes of toffee. Sweet and easy. Finish is very short with a peppery spice that is very beautiful. Due to the short finish and the dim aroma, i have to, against my will, give it a 90 over 100, but it feels like a lot more. Great dram. Go pick it up. -
Glenfiddich 18 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed April 5, 2020 (edited November 13, 2020)Expected a lot more. Glenfiddich is one of my favorite brands, i love its profile, i love the marketing they use, i loved the 2 drams i had before. This one, as most 18 yo whiskies i have had, didn't impressed me. It seemed they tried to do something very Fancy, easy drinkable, almost a dessert. Bottled at 40%abv, color: amber. On the nose, still in the bottle, has this Cherry cola aroma. In the glass, it has a Dark Chocolate, Vanilla, spicy note, also a slight very muted peat, and as the bottle went emptier, some saltyness as well. On the Palate is sooooo smooth. It is not a Whisky is a dessert. No burn at all, caramel, toffee notes, oranges, a little spicy, with a very very very short dry grass finish. Almost no Finish and almost no body. It is so light and Ultra Smooth that you can empty the bottle very quickly. It is a great dram for people who drink whisky, but for critics is a great flavored dram, but boring. Fancy as it gets, it is very enjoyable to drink it with cake or after a meal. I really tried it to be an 8 over 10, but it really is a 7.5 over 10. -
A nice version of Glenfiddich, it is better on the nose than the palate. 40%abv, polished mahogany color. On the nose i got notes of soda (like coca cola), pepper, vanilla, wet forest (wet green grass) almonds, toffee and coffee. On the palate is nice but not too impressive, with oak and chocolate, with an interesting note that resembles the sweet liquid that comes in a can of cherries. It is medium bodied, mouth watering with a long finish full of clove. It is a good dram, but i wouldn't buy it again since it is a little boring after a while. 82 out of 100.
