Glenfiddich Snow Phoenix
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed April 5, 2020 (edited July 3, 2022)Hello friends! I finally achieved one of my dreams and went to Scotland. A beautiful experience where i managed to taste more than 60 whiskies in 10 days. One of them, was the iconic Glenfiddich Snow Phoenix. A very limited release from 'fiddich, with a nice story. It seems that in 2010, one of their warehouses collapsed because of the heavy snow that fell. From the barrels that survived, this whisky was born. Labeled as "The Snow Phoenix", a mythical bird that rises from the snow tragedy. Bottled at 47.6%abv, pale straw color. On the nose, it is complex. Green apples, Chocolate, Some lemon with spices; Vanilla cream, thick. Some sherriness spice. Chocolate fudge. On the palate: Vanilla, Pleasant spices, Some chocolate, Almonds. Vanilla Milkshake that turns into an apple juice, that then turns into pleasant spiciness. Very complex and interesting. Aftertaste is good. Sider, ginger, creamy. Very pleasant. Overall, this is a great whisky. Since i have the bottle back home, unopened, i had a special feeling for it, and that sonehow made me think this one was going to be a 100, but it is not. A solid, well deserved 92 over a 100 is a suitable score for it. -
Glenfiddich Age of Discovery Madeira Cask 19 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed April 5, 2020 (edited April 10, 2020)Simply outstanding. Marvelous. This Glenfiddich 19yo Age of Discovery Madeira cask, is very fancy. Bottled at 40%abv, with a beautiful mahogany color. I loved everything about it, but specially the palate. On the nose you will find Liquorice, brown sugar, cremè brulee, some salt, sweet bread, caramel and gummy bears. The problem is that i had it on a tumbler glass and not in a glencairn so i can't really tell you if it has a dim aroma or not. It seems you have to work hard to get your nosing right on this beauty. On the palate, it is very smooth and sugary with a gentle hotness, very Fancy indeed. Main notes: Refined liquorice Very pleasant, Brown sugar and creme brulee, Oaky but sweet at the same time. Finish is full of an ashy spicyness and a touch of slight peatyness. Wonderful. Overall this is a 93/100, a great, great dram. -
Glenfiddich Age of Discovery Bourbon Cask 19 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed April 5, 2020 (edited January 30, 2021)Before even start talking about this dram lets be clear about some things: 1.- i had before the 19yo age of discovery madeira wood cask. It is better than this one, although they are both very similar. 2.- fancy whiskies are, in my opinion, a little easier to drink, not having bold flavors or aromas. 3.- this is a superb dram, and my score will not do justice to it. Having said that, this 40%abv dram, is one of 3 "age of discovery" special bottles from Glenfiddich, and let me tell you, this is as great as the madeira wood cask i reviewed earlier this year. On the nose it is a little dim, but lovely: Salt, Wine, Brown sugar, Milk chocolate, Juicy purple Grapes. On the palate it was absolutely a kiss from an angel, veey very Sweet, Sugar, Ginger, Liquorice. It is so marvelous and thick in your palate. I get Honey, mellowed notes of toffee. Sweet and easy. Finish is very short with a peppery spice that is very beautiful. Due to the short finish and the dim aroma, i have to, against my will, give it a 90 over 100, but it feels like a lot more. Great dram. Go pick it up. -
Glenfiddich 18 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed April 5, 2020 (edited November 13, 2020)Expected a lot more. Glenfiddich is one of my favorite brands, i love its profile, i love the marketing they use, i loved the 2 drams i had before. This one, as most 18 yo whiskies i have had, didn't impressed me. It seemed they tried to do something very Fancy, easy drinkable, almost a dessert. Bottled at 40%abv, color: amber. On the nose, still in the bottle, has this Cherry cola aroma. In the glass, it has a Dark Chocolate, Vanilla, spicy note, also a slight very muted peat, and as the bottle went emptier, some saltyness as well. On the Palate is sooooo smooth. It is not a Whisky is a dessert. No burn at all, caramel, toffee notes, oranges, a little spicy, with a very very very short dry grass finish. Almost no Finish and almost no body. It is so light and Ultra Smooth that you can empty the bottle very quickly. It is a great dram for people who drink whisky, but for critics is a great flavored dram, but boring. Fancy as it gets, it is very enjoyable to drink it with cake or after a meal. I really tried it to be an 8 over 10, but it really is a 7.5 over 10. -
A nice version of Glenfiddich, it is better on the nose than the palate. 40%abv, polished mahogany color. On the nose i got notes of soda (like coca cola), pepper, vanilla, wet forest (wet green grass) almonds, toffee and coffee. On the palate is nice but not too impressive, with oak and chocolate, with an interesting note that resembles the sweet liquid that comes in a can of cherries. It is medium bodied, mouth watering with a long finish full of clove. It is a good dram, but i wouldn't buy it again since it is a little boring after a while. 82 out of 100.

I am now fan of higher strength whiskies, i want everything they offer, lots of aroma notes, lots of flavor. This one is the Glenfiddich Distiller's edition, 15yo, 51%abv. It has been matured in ex-oloroso sherry casks and ex-bourbon casks. On the nose, it is the most fruity dram that has ever existed. Every fruit is in here. Orange, Lemon, Lime, Cherries, Prunes; it is so fruity. Lemon candy, orange candy. For 51%abv not hard to perceive at all. No alcohol note. Vanilla and caramel. Red fruits, fresh fruits, milk powder. On the palate, it has a lot of character. Very spicy. Almonds, very Oily and Oaky. Prunes, Hazelnut, Red apples, Cinnamon and Red apple peel. Aftertaste is amazing. The most pleasant black pepper and Cinnamon spice ever. Delicious. Very long. Overall this is a fantastic whisky. For 80 dollars, i would totally recommend it. 92 over 100.

Glenfiddich 15 Year Solera Reserve
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed April 5, 2020 (edited April 29, 2020)This is my first single malt since i've actually learned how to drink whisky and know how to nose it and taste it properly. I have made reviews only for blends and one single grain. This whisky is very good, on the nose you get a little herbal like mint notes, honey, but most of it is caramel or vanilla. You will the get the impression it is going to be sweet but actually the sweetness is only for a second in your palate. After that second, you will get a full bodied peppery sensation, very strong which will leave your mouth hot and dry. actually it is a beautiful drink, i've enjoyed it a lot. 89 over 100 -
Allegedly the best selling single malt in the world, this is a fine whisky for a 12yo, a little fruity and straightforward, but for the price it is really a good deal (around $33). Bottled 40%abv, with a burnished color. On the nose it is very fruity, specially full of apple notes as Sider and apple juice. There are also cream and cinnamon on the aroma as well. On the palate at first is a little harsh, but you will easily be able to tame it in the second sip. Tobbacco, honey, oranges and a herbal note. The finish is long with a clove spicy note with lots of character. Overall i give this dram an 88 over a 100. Cheers!

Another Glenfiddich cask collection, using a Solera Vat system to make it. 40%abv, with a deep gold color. On the nose is a little dim, losing points there. A little perfumed, elegant, full of prunes, oranges, apples, milk chocolate and almonds. On the palate is delicious, with caramel, prune peel, ashes and oak notes. It is medium bodied and the finish is long. This one makes your mouth dry, diferent than the reserve cask, which is mouth watering. 80 out of 100, i wouldn't buy this other "cask collection" one again, since it gets a little boring after a while, just as reserve cask.

Glenfarclas 25 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed April 5, 2020 (edited September 30, 2023)I was having a tasting event with some friends at home and one of the brought this Glenfarclas 25. Even if it is a highland malt it sure feels like an speysider. Bottled at 43%abv. On the nose a fresh clean red apple note. Have you ever bite and apple and wait 10 minutes and you notice how the apple gets "old" because of the bite? The yellow inside turns brownish? Well, that brownish old red apple aroma is the one this glenfarclas have. It is exactly the apple "motts" juice aroma. After a while some red fruits appear and maybe sherry. Clean aroma, very likeable not complex at all. On the palate is a good dram. Cinnamon, oak, red apples. Not much going on but truly pleasant. Finish is eternal with a clove/ginger note. Overall for a 25yo it could be better but it is a good dram and it is cheap (around 150), my score for it is 93 over 100.
