Dad's Hat Pennsylvania Rye Whiskey
Rye — Pennsylvania, USA
Reviewed December 13, 2017 (edited November 17, 2018)For rye lovers. The nose shows sweet cherry, Mexican vanilla, orange spice. The first taste hits with a little wood, a sharp edge, perhaps some faint cherry, followed by green peppercorns. No corn sweetness nor butter here. Finish is dry and strong, with lingering semi-bitter dark chocolate, grassiness, dry leaves, and the rye alcohol burn. -
Hints of banana, clove, and vanilla on the nose. Sip starts very smooth but light, almost a banana custard before providing notes of clove and very faint undertones of something bright - lemon zest or sumac. Finishes almost smoother than it started. While I don't get a lot of flavor variety out of the 18 year, I appreciate it's relaxed nature sometimes.
