Del Maguey Chichicapa Mezcal
Mezcal Joven — Oaxaca, Mexico
Reviewed December 10, 2017 (edited March 23, 2018)Very new to quality tequila/mezcal but this is incredible. Nose is very bright and lively. Agave, green vegetables and smoke but not like a scotch smoke. More of a deep roasted caramelized smoke, like the toasted top on creme brûlée. Taste is huge and follows the nose quite closely but with the smoke character much more dominant but without overpowering. Finishes with parsley and mint. Without a doubt the most complex and “eventful” clear sprit I’ve ever had. Akin to a Islay scotch. -
Herradura Colección de la Casa Reserva 2013 Cognac Cask Finish Reposado
Tequila Reposado — Tequila Valley, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed December 10, 2017Pretty inoffensive. Feel it’s missing that wonderful brightness of Don Julio or a quality mezcal. But the cognac barrel does add a wonderful complex dark fruit sweetness that isn’t cloying.
