Tastes

The nose is quite pleasant with some kind of grain smell I don't recognize which makes a lot of sense. Snow Leopard Vodka is made from spelt grain, a rather rare base that only 7 other vodkas use. There is some ethanol smell to it as well but it blends nicely with the grain aromas. The peculiar smell translates into the tongue. I can't really describe it but it doesn't taste like any other vodka I've had and I suspect it's the spelt grain dominating the palate. It's not sweet or bitter, instead finding a nice in between before finishing with a nice spicy kick. Not much of a burn either though admittedly there are smoother options out there. Personally I loved the spicy kick at the finish and medium-light burn. It's very well done and this is quite a good sipping vodka. Bitterness is kept at a nice medium rounding out the experience and keeping things interesting in the background. Yes, this is a nice, pleasant bitterness. It has a nice texture too: not as oily as potato vodkas but not pure water like a lot of corn vodkas tend to feel. If I had one word to describe this vodka is that it is extremely well balanced. While the spelt flavor dominates the palate it never overwhelms it and the bitterness, texture, sweetness and burn all kept my interest without ruining my experience. An absolute joy to drink and I'm glad to know some of the money goes to a worthy cause. What's not to love?
