Lagavulin 8 Year
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed September 20, 2019 (edited December 21, 2019)I had a hot-cold relationship with this one for my first several tastings. I'll come right out and say it: I find the fruitiness overwhelming on the initial nosing and tasting. But if I stick with it, by continuing to breathe the smell in, and if I swallow it, suddenly all the flavour changes in a really surprising and delightful way! The peatiness then comes out, and the saltiness helps to balance the sweetness. Actually, the after-taste goes through more than one taste development, and the finish is both long and spicy--like a warm Christmas punch! -
Laphroaig Quarter Cask
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed September 15, 2019 (edited August 17, 2021)This was my first peated Scotch, and the first whisky I ever really liked. Love the taste of wood, and the peatbomb itself! The glass also smells good hours after being emptied.
