Jim Beam Single Barrel Bourbon 108 Proof
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 26, 2023 (edited November 28, 2023)Glass: Glencairn, rested 15 minutes. Color: Medium amber. Nose: Caramel, apple, and toffee notes. Some apricot and raisin as well. Palate: Clove and baking spice with some cinnamon. Finish: Medium length with medium heat. Splash: Clove flavor is more pronounced. Overall: 6/10 - A bit more complexity would go a long way. The slightly elevated proof is evident in the finish but does nothing for the nose or palate. -

Finish: A bit longer than the BiB, with minimal heat. Splash: No new flavors are revealed. Overall: 6/10 - This would be perfectly fine with ice or in a cocktail, but doesn't really stand out in any way. A little more proof would go a long way. -
Old Forester 1897 Bottled In Bond
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 4, 2023 (edited November 14, 2023)Glass: Glencairn, rested 15 minutes. Color: Medium-dark amber. Nose: Classic bourbon notes of caramel, apple, and vanilla. Palate: Clove and cinnamon with some baking spice. Finish: Medium length with medium heat. Splash: A touch of mint appears. Overall: 7.5/10 - I'm a fan of Old Forester in general, and this is my first time trying the BiB. At 100 proof would probably mix well or stand up to a large ice cube. -
Glass: Glencairn, rested 15 minutes. Color: Medium amber. Nose: Toffee and sweet raisin notes. Palate: Some light spice up front with a buttery mouthfeel. Finish: Short and not very warm. Splash: No new flavors are revealed, but somehow the finish improves. Overall: 7.5/10 - Given the chance to pick up this bottle at Jameson in Dublin, I was curious. I didn't get a chance to taste it at Jameson's bar, but I'm glad I picked this up. A little bump in proof would go a long way, but it's a tasty pour.
