Tastes

Some char and caramel on the nose with just a hint of spice and leather. It has a typical Texas taste on the palate: kinda grainy and grassy with a hint of apple from the wheated mashbill. Decent overall, but nothing spectacular.

Very solid overall pour. Charred oak and caramel along with a hint of cherry on the nose. The palate is a bit more fruit-forward along with a slight heat and burnt sugar. Finish is medium-long and warm.

Sweet and floral on the nose. Same flavors with some honey and oak continue through on the palate. The finish fills your mouth and is medium-long. Solid pour for sure.

Almost a sour funk on the nose. The palate is like damp, peanuts that almost taste like they’re rotting. I’ll be honest, I’m glad I borrowed a sample of this bottle, because there’s almost nothing redeeming or enjoyable about it.

You can definitely tell this is a pot still bourbon instead of a column still bourbon as there’s a quality on both the nose and palate that is atypical of column distillate. Kind of an oaky, fruity funk on the nose that also carries through on the palate. Maybe a hint of caramel too. Lengthy finish that seems hotter than 94 proof.

A little sweetness with a decent amount of port/wine as well. Drinks a little above it’s proof. Fair amount of port and ethanol on the palate. Finish is medium-short.

Almost a slight coffee note on the nose with a hint of fruit. The palate is grainy with some slight new oak flavor. Finish is fairly bland with some ethanol.

Grain and slight spice on the nose with a hint of leather maybe. Palate is thin with a lot of spice on the backend.

Interesting overall. Not as good as the sherry finish and definitely not as good as the tawny port finish. Has a sweetness to it, but overpowering. Same oakiness on the nose.

Sweet and syrupy on the nose with a fair amount of oak. A higher viscosity and more dark sweetness than the rest of the TX offerings and much better than the standard shelf Angel’s Envy. TX did a great job with this port finished bourbon.
