Balvenie Single Barrel Sherry Cask 15 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed July 14, 2018 (edited February 10, 2020)It's iodine, red berries, a tingling ethanol, and Sherry notes. The palate is full and smooth with more sherry and oak. The finish is dry oak, Sherry, baked tarts, and has a long lingering warmth. This is a great sherry smooth dram. -
Old Forester 1920 Prohibition is caramel, vanilla, toffee, ethanol, faint smoke and oak on the nose. It is rich, smooth, oily, full, toffee, spice and smoke on the palate. It finishes sweet, slightly dry oak, cinnamon and a lingering warmth that is not too hot even though it's bottled at 115 proof. The style of this Bourbon and the impetus for its creation makes you ponder about the nature of our country in the Roaring 20's. I think this Old Forester 1920 Prohibition Bourbon would be best paired with watching some Boardwalk Empire.
