Tastes

For the price, it is surprisingly good. The arrival is good, the peat a nice aromatic variety (highland park). It lacks complexity though, and the finish is too short. At this price and considering the target audience, it's hard to fault.

Elegance and balance. For me personally, it lacks a little kick, but that is all down to personal preference. This whisky is hard to fault, especially at this price

Very special malt blend. Gotta give credit to the people at compass box for pushing the envelope on this one. Not a sherry bomb, more like a spicy highland. Sweet, spicy, elegant but packs a punch.

Sweet and spicy. I am sure it will give another budding whisky-geek a good entry into single malt appreciation as it did for me.

You can't deny the quality of the spirit here. It is absolutely stunning. I still feel that this expression is held back somewhat by the presentation. Remove the colouring, the filtration and up the percentage a bit and it would be a truly remarkable whisky. As it stands, I find it almost all that, but not quite.

On first opening the bottle, I was met by an off note. Something like buttermilk gone sour. Upon leaving the whisky in the glass for a while, this note disappeared and I found myself enjoying this whisky. In fact, I loved it. Creamy, sweet and complex. Can be drunk both as an easy-drinkinking evening whisky, but provides ample opportunity for nerds to geek out. Fantastic stuff, shame it is no more.
