Redwood Empire 12 Year Haystack Needle Double Barrel Port Cask Finish
Bourbon — Indiana (finished in California), USA
Reviewed October 8, 2022 (edited October 19, 2022)Had to have a dram after a bad port finished whiskey, to remind myself that port finish can be good. As far as port finished American whiskey goes, for me this is up there with MGP MWND, maybe even slightly better. -
Kilkerran 8 Year Old Cask Strength - Port Cask Matured 2022
Single Malt — Campbeltown , Scotland
Reviewed October 8, 2022 (edited November 2, 2022)A rare dud from Kilkerran. There are some nice flavors in there, but it's overwhelmed by heavy sulfur, especially on the nose. Borderline drain pour, but I'll give it some time to oxidize, since I have a bottle. -
Aberlour 18 Year Double Cask Matured
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed October 8, 2022 (edited November 1, 2024)Caramel apple, smooth, sherry blends in nicely without stealing the show.25.0 USD per Pour -
Monumental 18 Year Blended Scotch Whisky (Alexander Murray & Co.)
Blended — Scotland
Reviewed October 8, 2022Butterscotch up front, smooth oaky finish. Light bodied, but it grew on me. -
Glen Elgin 1995 24 Year Cask Strength Collection (Signatory)
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed October 7, 2022Smells like apple. Fruity, slightly custardy palate with a little burnt sugar on the finish. Oak is in the background. Flavors are well integrated, but still doesn't taste like a 24yo. -
BenRiach 6 Year Old 2011 - The Octave (Duncan Taylor)
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed October 7, 20227 year old. Smoky, ham. Very youthful, the octave seems to impart sherry flavors quickly, but the idea that it makes it taste older is absurd marketing gimmickry.95.0 USD per Bottle
