Bunnahabhain 2008 Manzanilla Cask Matured
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed March 25, 2021 (edited December 26, 2021)A masterful letdown.... Such high hopes for this one. The nose is complex and intriguing - enticing me to jump into the taste. The initial and mid palate are delightful making me eager for a spectacular finish especially since the abv is high.... Alas the finish is an off-putting bitter note reminiscent of a negroni (read the campari bitter note). Absolutely ruins the whisky for my palate. I am a big opponent of negronis due to this bitter note. To the point that I make my negronis with Aperol instead of Campari to reduce this bitterness and make it slightly more sweet. If not for the bitter finish this rating would have most likely been in the stratosphere but instead we have a rather pedestrian rating and a whisky that I will not seek out again.. Especially at $200200.0 USD per Bottle -
Peerless Single Barrel Rye Finished in Copper & Kings Absinthe Barrels
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 7, 2021Should have let the absinthe barrels dry allowing the absinthe to evaporate from the barrels a bit more. It is too overpowering with absinthe. It reeks of absinthe... and I do mean reeks. It should have been a hint of absinthe to compliment the herbal notes found in Rye. But instead it's absinthe with a touch of rye. A swing and a miss in my books -
Sagamore Spirit 'Sagamore Reserve' Double Oak Rye (2017 Limited Edition Release)
Rye — (bottled in) Maryland, USA
Reviewed October 7, 2020 (edited October 7, 2021)This is fantastic. The nose is out of this world. It smells like caramel fudge waffle cone. I'm reminded of Daelmans Stroopwafels with caramel. It's heavenly. I did a comparison with rare breed rye and Midwinter Night's Dram Act 8 Scene 1. This won hands down. It will now be my go to rye. Superb. -
Please do not disrespect real single malt with this underwhelming experiement. Everything else from this distillery has been trash (especially the blue corn) so I should have known this was gonna be off as well. Had been saving cracking this bottle for a while since I thought it might be special. Boy was I wrong. Glad it's almost out of my collection. Save yourself the time and money and skip over. Not even worth me jotting down tasting and nosing notes.

Dry Fly Straight Wheat Whiskey Port Barrel Finish 3 Year
Wheat Whiskey — Washington, USA
Reviewed July 28, 2020Underwhelming. The Triticale was beyond phenomenal. This just completely falls flat and has no soul. The port doesn't even seem to save it. Will not buy again. If offered I'd ask for a generic bourbon instead -
Virginia Distillery Co. Courage & Conviction Prelude
American Single Malt — Virginia, USA
Reviewed March 8, 2020 (edited June 2, 2022)Very young. If this was 8 years old toc10 years it would be superb. As it stands, it's just cuvee sweet young corn whiskey with that alcohol burn and green taste... Disappointed for the price. Hope future revisions of this are older
