Glenfiddich 15 Year Solera Reserve
Single Malt — Speyside, ScotlandTastedEthanol on the nose but calms down after some time in the glass. Palate is standard Speyside - sweet honey, lots of malt, and apples for me. Finish is fine. Maybe too easy with no bite.
Ardbeg Blaaack (2020 Committee Release)
Peated Single Malt — Islay, ScotlandTastedClassic Ardbeg profile. Ethanol on the nose. Palate is Ardbeg peat, black pepper, and some dry wine influence. Finish lingers with smoke and pepper. Delicious.
Springbank 15 Year
Peated Single Malt — Campbeltown, ScotlandTastedButterscotch and honey on the nose. Similar on the palate plus maybe some apples. Long finish that brings a bit of briny peat smoke. Very good. A lovely Fathers Day gift from my lovely wife.
The Macallan Double Cask 12 Year
Single Malt — Highland, ScotlandTastedSimilar to the sherry cask. Maybe less rich and sweet. But of alcohol burn.
Ron Zacapa 23 Sistema Solera Rum
Aged Rum — GuatemalaTastedSweet and easy drinking. A little goes a long way. Really nice sipping this while watching the river go by.
BenRiach Authenticus 21 Year
Peated Single Malt — Speyside, ScotlandTastedSipping while camping on the Greenbrier River. Light peat and smoke. Lots going on here. Some orchard fruit on the finish.
The Glenlivet Caribbean Reserve
Single Malt — Speyside, ScotlandTastedI really really wanted to like this. And it’s ok, but just way too sweet. Reminds me of the Tullamore D.E.W. rum cask finish. Nose is subtle but on the palate the rum is so forward. If you like really sweet whisky this might be for you.
Virginia Distillery Co. Courage & Conviction Dr. George G. Moore Batch
American Single Malt — Virginia, USATastedA bit young and sharp but flavorful. Sweet and honey. Bit of spice on the finish.
Suntory Whisky Toki
Blended — JapanTastedLight and sweet. Not much on the nose. Honey and vanilla on the palate. No burn, short finish. Pretty good.
Lagavulin 8 Year
Peated Single Malt — Islay, ScotlandTastedPeat and smoke as you’d expect. Little sweetness and tasty for the price. But not as interesting as the Ardbeg 10.
