Jefferson's Reserve Groth Reserve Cask Finish
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed March 21, 2020 (edited March 24, 2020)Definitely prefer the Ocean Voyage version and the Evan Williams single barrel prior. It's not a bad dram but has all the flavor profiles i'm not a fan of in a bourbon. -
Evan Williams Single Barrel Vintage
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed March 21, 2020 (edited April 24, 2020)Another one where their std offerings are very poorly rated but they have stepped up their game for their single barrel release. In the crap shot run that is tonight this in the top few decent drams. Bourbons a bit like Japanese whiskey for me...the good stuff is still there but generally stupidly expensive and the rest just is either average quality or not my type of flavour. It's good to have one pop out that whilst nothing special is just a nice middle of the road dram. Sweet, lovely mouth feel and well balanced..aftertaste lets it down a bit but you can't win them all! This was the 2010 bottling. -
GlenAllachie 12 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed March 21, 2020 (edited April 24, 2020)Not a bad effort but Billy can do better. Much preferred the cask strength. -
Glenglassaugh Pedro Ximenez Sherry Wood Finish
Single Malt — Highland, Scotland
Reviewed March 21, 2020 (edited June 10, 2021)Woah ho ho, Glenglassaugh I have wronged thee by placing you in the pile of crap. Now you aren't reaching to great heights but you have climbed to the top of the pile of crap. I'd call you the king of the crap pile but that would insinuate you weren't that good and you are. The PX bolts out of the gate. Very mild sulphurousnous balances well with the dark fruits and raisins. Now it is thin and the aftertaste not really there but not to shabby a dram. -
Bunnahabhain Toiteach A Dhà
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed March 21, 2020 (edited April 24, 2020)I'm over NAS's pumped out for a quick buck...TRE hell..like Zerg in the computer game Starcraft they have the ability to multiply rapidly and destroy any taste buds in their path. They are what you get when you cross accounting with sales and marketing and ruthlessly suppress the poor master distiller who prefers quality over quantity. Now this isn't a bad example of one it's actually quite pleasant but it has no soul no sense of purpose unlike the fabulous 18 yr which is like I am Bunnahabhain let me destroy your liver with addictive goodness. It's sweet smokey goodness. Nothing more or less, well executed and fairly priced. -
Ok these guys also have a relatively poor scoring across the board. Can a society which is either so secret or obscure I've never heard of them, the British Bourbon Society save them? No they can't. I detest Loch Lomond but Hunter Laing massaged it into something acceptable. That Boutique Whisky Co. has rescued many an average distillery their bottlings of Glenrothes being way better then the original. These guys fly under the radar for a reason..they aren't good at their day job. Baby vomit and cheese on the nose and palate.Thin weak..I can taste rye but that's about it.
