Forged Oak 15 Year Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky (bottled in Tennessee), USA
Reviewed August 12, 2017 (edited November 29, 2018)This vanishing product is a descent 15 year and the name absolutely fits it's notes. Nose of oak, wet wood, dried vanilla. For me the oak is dominating the field. body is light matching it's color which is surprising for a 15 year. Palate of spices, peppers, Carmel. It sweetens at the end in a very nice way. The tannins from the wood come out. I enjoyed this one, I wish the $65 price tag was a bit lower. Keep drinking my friends... Skol! -
Old Grand-Dad 114 Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 9, 2017 (edited November 19, 2018)This entry comes in right around $25 or so which is an absolute value to any whiskey drinker. Nose of dried red berries, vanilla, leather, fresh mint (possibly from the proof I'm inhaling). Strong bite, water it down a bit to release it's true potential. I'm tasting at full strength. Palate is full of wet tobacco, fresh ground cinnamon, vanilla, roasted nuts and something earthy I can't place. finish is smooth, warming and leaves a slight tingle. I recommend this one especially since beam is going back and forth if they will produce this in 2018. Keep drinking my friends... Skol -
Elijah Craig 18 Year Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 6, 2017 (edited November 15, 2017)2017 release of EC18. The new bottle is an improved sleek design from previous years. A seasonal release at $130 this bottle can be difficult to find. Nose is wet cherry wood, citrus fruits, vanillans. Light body and feel. Palate of citrus and dark fruit, dry bark and wet tobacco. Finish is soft. Over all and interesting great bourbon without a strong bite. Another great EC product, I do prefer over the 23-yr as I feel any more age is too woody. Keep drinking friends. -
Abraham Bowman Gingerbread Cocoa Finished Bourbon
Bourbon — Virginia, USA
Reviewed August 6, 2017 (edited February 25, 2018)A real treat in a glass, you want to let this breathe for 15 minutes so the alcohol burns off and the aromas come forward. Nose is cooking spices and powder chocolate, nutmeg and brown sugar. Body is light however gives you an oily coat, astringent feel in the sides of your tongue. The palate is tricky, significant oak forward resulting from the age and variety of barrel, again a variety of spices and deep cherries followed by dark chocolate. Finish is light and dissipates quickly but leaving you thirsty for more. This is a hard to find but I recommend jumping on this unique entry for your collection. -
Michter's US*1 Kentucky Straight Rye

This seasonal allocated release is priced perfectly around $35. sweet dry Carmel nose with a hint of new oak. The 107 proof gives it a delightful bite with full oily body, notes of sweet corn and malted wheat leaving a tingle. the finish mellows quickly softening up to yet again sweet fruits and a warming sensation. This should be a yearly purchase for the whiskey enthusiast.
