Blanton's Single Barrel Black Edition
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed January 11, 2019 (edited May 7, 2022)This guy found it's way back home from Japan by way of a fellow bourbon brother, fortunate for me! NOSE: Heavy oak and vanilla extract dominate the nose upfront with a subtle baking spice trying to peak through. TASTE: Flat Cola with a spicy honey lead the charge with a hint of orange zest and caramel chews laying in the background. FINISH: Very bold up front with flavor and light burn the sustains through the sip, fades quickly leaving you wanting another. BODY: Light and clean, slightest oil that is gone in a flash, well balanced. OVERALL: Loved it, even without it being cask strength it still packs a punch with full flavor. Blantons does it again. Colonel E.H. Taylor, Jr. Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 28, 2018 (edited January 26, 2019)I'm sampling a 2018 release of the single barrel neatly. These bottles are sometimes difficult to find and each barrel will vary slightly. completely worth having it on your self though. COLOR: Deep golden honey. NOSE: Dried apricots, marmalade, vanilla, cherry juice, there is a lot of sweet complexity to the nose. TASTE: Coffee, brown sugar, tapioca pudding, burnt cheerios, I feel like I could spend the next 20 minutes pulling out crazy things from this barrel. BODY: coats very well with a medium body, very well balanced indeed. FINISH: Comes on strong and then melts like butter fading away and revealing additional flavors masked by the 100 proof up front. FINAL THOUGHTS: Absolutely delicious and worth finding again. Its smoothness, full flavor and complexity keeps me coming back to my glass. To my bourbon brothers out there... Little Book Chapter 2: Noe Simple Task
Other Whiskey — Multiple Countries
Reviewed November 16, 2018 (edited April 9, 2019)I find that doing a new whiskey each year is a very maverick thing to do in this whiskey realm and very often pays off. Some years will be a miss and some hits. Let's see what chapter 2 holds. COLOR: much lighter then expected with a gold straw color. NOSE: cereal malt grains, spring florals, cinnamon, toffee nuts. TASTE: cough syrup, dark cherry, fig. BODY: oily richness, coats very well and settles. FINISH: up front a splash of cold oil that heats up rapidly to a blaze then slowly settles down. finish is long and the residual flavors are very enjoyable in there muted forms. OVERALL: This is not for the beginner or faint of heart, packs a punch with its mixture of high rye and high proof. I enjoyed this one but I will say the 1st edition was better slightly with less fight in it. As always keep drinking my friends... Skol!99.99 USD per Bottle -
Parker's Heritage Barrel Finished in Orange Curaçao Barrels
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 13, 2018This sample came to me by way of a bourbon brother. The Parkers Heritage line has never let me down and this year is no exception! This is a limited availability bottle, released once a year with a different expression. Nose: light vanilla with soft citrus notes, orange lollipop and Terry's chocolate oranges. Really enjoying the aroma. Palate: The citrus notes are very soft and slightly medicinal but not at all over powering, burnt grapefruit, nutmeg & marmalade. (side note I thought it reminded me of a scotch for a second). Finish: A bit if fire up front but fades quickly leaving you looking for another sip. Body: medium complexity, slight oil but lighter then expected, smooth for 110 proof. Very enjoyable and if your looking for a unique bottle that stands apart from the pack this is your guy. Remus Repeal Reserve Series I (2017 Medley)
Bourbon — Indiana, USA
Reviewed October 19, 2018 (edited November 21, 2018)I have to thank a friend for this tasty pour. Remus might seem unassuming at a glance but it reveals that MGP (love them or hate them) knows what they are doing. Nose: Sweet perfume of florals wrapped with tobacco and that familiar vanilla hint. Taste: madicinal meets dried fruits, sweetness that leads into baking spices such as nutmeg, cinnamon and a touch of peppercorn. Body: medium rich oily texture that coats the mouth, slight tingle towards the front. All together a very enjoyable aged spirit. The flavor and texture carry enough punch that I come back for 2nds. Blanton's Original Single Barrel
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 28, 2017 (edited November 29, 2018)Blantons has become more sparse on shelves as the next generation is rocketing bourbon' s popularity. Nose: orange peels, leather, brown sugar, I get apricots (I may be crazy). Palate: dark cocoa powder, vanilla, slight orange or lemon zest, pepper. Finish is short but full of flavor, oily coating that I prefer in whiskies. Everyone should enjoy a bottle of Blantons at least once in there bourbon experience. Here's the Elmer T. Lock Stock & Barrel Straight Rye Whiskey 13 Year
Rye — Canada
Reviewed November 10, 2017 (edited March 10, 2018)Found this at a local watering hole (Overtime in Lombard, IL.) that has a fantastic bourbon selection. Nose has a medicinal value due to the intense rye, grains, cheerios, floral, slight sweet. Palate of nutmeg and other cooking spices, cherry cough drops, rye dough, young un-ripened berries. Mouth feel coats the entire mouth with a slight oil and a lovely oil numbing. If you're a rye lover do not pass this up. Keep drinking my friends... Skol -

Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 24, 2017 (edited December 1, 2018)Released seasonaly twice a year this younger version of George T. Stagg barrel strength packs a punch, and is allocated. I'm drinking stagg Jr batch #6, 66.25% abv or 132.5 proof neat. Nose: dried fruit, Carmel, sweet candied cherries, fresh cut ceder and cloves. Palate: pipe tobacco, mint sprigs, celery, cherry cough drops, very medicinal. Body: medium with slight oil feel, bite starts slow and build, hits on the front and top back of your tongue. Finish: hot but fades quickly, numbing of the lips is expected from this high octane tannin rich whisky nectar. If your and enthusiast this is a must try. Keep drinking my friends... Skol!
